New Plant Nursery, Veterinarians Proposed For Greenfield

Greenfield has a host of new businesses coming its way. A crab restaurant, veterinarians and new greenhouses are all on the table.

GREENFIELD, WI — The Greenfield Plan Commission will discuss new proposals for animal clinics, a greenhouse and nursery, a dog boarding business and a new crab restaurant at its meeting Tuesday.

Each proposal is at a different stage of approval. To be discussed Tuesday: Survey maps for Anne's Acres, a special use permit for Banfield Pet Hospital, signage for Crab Du Jour and site plans for Midwest Veterinary Specialists. The Plan Commission will also discuss a temporary permit for Spirit Halloween.

Here's a rundown on each of the new businesses proposed for Greenfield:

Anne's Acres

This proposed nursery and garden center would be created at 8711 West Forest Home Avenue. The garden center would specialize in spring annual such as petunias, geraniums, impatiens, zinnias and others, according to July 13 Plan Commission minutes.

The garden center would also sell fall mums, winter spruces and Christmas trees. The center will employee four people full time. Eight people will be brought on as seasonal employees. The garden center could branch out into community events — Community classes for spring planters and holiday spruce planters were raised as an idea, according to city documents.

Three greenhouses will be constructed for the new business. Two more greenhouses are a possibility, city documents show.

Banfield Pet Hospital

This pet hospital, part of a nationwide chain with over 1,000 clinics across the United States, is seeking to join other businesses at a strip mall located at 5005 76th Street. The clinic would be the first of its type in Greenfield and Wisconsin, according to city documents.

The veterinarian clinic focuses on nutrition counseling, vaccinations, parasite control, dental care and behavior counseling. It does not allow for overnight boarding — For emergencies, the clinic works with local partners to ensure 24 hour emergency services for pets, according to city documents.

The business would be open 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. daily. A dog waste station would be installed outside to manage potential pet waste in the area due to the business.

Crab Du Jour

Crab Du Jour inches closer to opening its Greenfield location. The Cajun seafood restaurant and bar is planned to open soon at 4838 76th Street in Greenfield. The restaurant is taking over for what was formerly TGI Friday's.

The business is part of a nationwide chain with one location in Brown Deer already. Its online menu includes Po'Boy sandwiches, crawfish, lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams, scallops and of course multiple types of crab.

Midwest Veterinary Specialists

Midwest Veterinary Specialists is offering to purchase what was formerly Accommodating Petz at 6815 West Layton Avenue. The building would hold two veterinarian businesses led by Dr. Mary Sarah Butler, according to city documents.

The veterinarian would operate as a specialty animal hospital that focuses on orthopedic and neurologic conditions. It would also have rehabilitation therapy and sports medicine.

A separate business called Animal Urgent Care, LLC, would operate in the building as well for routine and urgent animal health issues such as broken bones, blood work, trauma, emergency surgery, according to city documents.

Spirit Halloween

Spirit Halloween, the nationwide costume and prop retailer that pops up in vacated strip malls across the country around Halloween, is proposing to use the former TJ Maxx location at Spring Mall this year, according to city documents.

Spirit Halloween would occupy the space in August and leave on November 15. The store would be located at 4200 76th Street.
