22nd Joe's Run, Walk, & Roll to Support People with Disabilities

Hart Park, Wauwatosa – Joe’s Run, Walk, & Roll, Milwaukee’s first completely inclusive 1k, 3k, and 5k, will be held for its 22nd year on Saturday, September 22nd from 9 am – noon in Hart Park (7300 W. Chestnut, Wauwatosa). The event is presented by S.C. Johnson, and other important sponsors include Baird, HGA Architects, Marquette University, Johnson Financial Group, The Baumgartner Group at Keller-Williams, Mississippi Health Care Association, Greenfield Firefighters Local 1963, and Walgreens.

Participants will enjoy a beautiful course along the Menomonee River, family activities including arts and games, raffles, a silent auction, and a light lunch accompanied by a performance by a Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra string quartet. The fundraiser supports the children and adults with disabilities and their families who are served by the local nonprofit Broadscope Disability Services (formerly known as United Cerebral Palsy of Southeastern Wisconsin).

Broadscope’s Executive Director Mary Schinkowitch said “Joe’s is such a great event because the emphasis on inclusivity means our entire community is able to come together, regardless of their individual needs. It’s a beautiful opportunity for families to get together outdoors and celebrate what makes us each unique.”

Joe’s Run, Walk, & Roll started out in 1975 with a sit up contest held in a basement led by its sole participant, Joe Lubarsky, a champion for people with disabilities who himself lives with Cerebral Palsy. The event earned its name in 1988 when Joe first took it beyond the basement to run 10 miles to work, from 92nd and Morgan to 3rd and Kilbourn, and in 1996 it grew into the family-focused community 5k that it has become today.
