'Beloved' Bartender Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver: Report

Milwaukee's Bay View community is in mourning after the loss of one of their own on Christmas Eve to a hit-and-run driver.

MILWAUKEE, WI β€” Milwaukee's Bay View community is in mourning after the loss of one of their own on Christmas Eve to a hit-and-run driver.

Milwaukee Police say James Hanson, 36, was walking her dogs on the sidewalk on Christmas Eve night on the 2600 block of S. Howell Ave. when the driver of a blue 2007 Jeep Liberty struck and killed her.

Whoever drove that vehicle left the scene and now authorities are searching for the driver. On Friday, police said they tracked down the vehicle that was involved in the fatal hit-and-run.

Milwaukee police say that video recorded on a surveillance camera from the area shows the suspect's vehicle also have been equipped with a roof ladder or bicycle rack which was dislodged in the crash. The vehicle likely has damage to the front passenger side light assembly and bumper.

Anyone coming in contact with the vehicle please call the Milwaukee Police Department at 414-935-7360, police say.

According to a WISN 12 report, Hanson was a beloved bartender who worked at the Milwaukee Brat House. "She was just one of the most positive, uplifting people that I've ever met that I've worked with in this industry," longtime friend Andy Fronek said in the report.

A fundraiser will be held at the Milwaukee Brat House at 5 p.m. Monday to help Hanson's family cover funeral expenses Fronek said.
