Car Runs Red Light; Milwaukee Motorcycle Cop, Bus Driver Hurt: Police

A passenger and the driver of a Milwaukee County Transit System bus were injured in a crash near 35th and North Avenue Tuesday, police said.

MILWAUKEE, WI β€” Two people inside a public bus and a Milwaukee police motorcycle officer were injured Tuesday morning when a car ran a red light and crashed near 35th Street and North Avenue, according to police.

It happened shortly before 11:30 a.m., police said. A car ran the red light and crashed into another vehicle, causing the first car to crash into a Milwaukee County Transit System bus that was stopped at the light, according to police.

The second car then crashed into the Milwaukee Police Department motorcycle officer, who was also stopped at the light, police said.

Police said they arrested the 33-year-old driver of the car that ran the light despite his attempt to run away. The 38-year-old police officer was hospitalized with injuries that were not expected to be fatal, police said.

The 57-year-old woman who was driving the bus and a 68-year-old woman who was onboard were also hospitalized with injuries that were not expected to be fatal, police said.
