The end of Daylight Saving Time is coming up, and here's your reminder to set those clocks back one hour.

Do this:

Before you go to bed on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 5, turn your clocks back one hour.

Why:

When local time is about to reach 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, Daylight Saving Time expires, and it becomes 1 a.m.

As a result:

You get an extra hour of sleep. But sunrise and sunset will be about one hour earlier on Nov. 6.

When does the sun set?

Nighttime comes an hour earlier after the end of daylight saving time.

As a result, you go from this:

Sunset on Nov. 5*

  • Eastern Time: 5:47 PM (New York)
  • Central Time: 5:38 PM (Milwaukee)
  • Mountain Time: 5:53 PM (Denver)
  • Pacific Time: 6:06 PM (San Francisco)

...to this

Sunset on Nov. 6*

  • Eastern Time: 4:46 PM (New York)
  • Central Time: 4:37 PM (Milwaukee)
  • Mountain Time: 4:52 PM (Denver)
  • Pacific Time: 5:05 PM (San Francisco)
