MILWAUKEE, WI — Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts recently opted to dodge a potential ghostly encounter, staying at an Airbnb when the team was in Milwaukee instead of at the historic and allegedly haunted Pfister Hotel, where it was widely reported the rest of the team lodged.

Betts told The Orange County Register that even though he’s not sure if he believes in ghosts, he chose to bunk with friends who rented an Airbnb “just in case.”

“You can tell me what happened after,” he said to the newspaper. “I just don’t want to find out myself.”

The 130-year-old hotel is among the country’s most haunted hotels, according to Haunted Rooms America, which added the Pfister is known for electrical malfunctions of a possible ghostly origin and for the spirit of an older gentleman, believed to be founder Charles Pfister.

Plenty of pro baseball players have had spiritual encounters at the hotel, according to a roundup published by MLB.com, which cited ESPN The Magazine. Former Rangers infielder Michael Young reported hearing footsteps in his locked room. Pirates designated hitter Ji Man Choi recounted feeling a spirit hug him from behind and said that another ghost whispered in his ear. Former Cardinals players Carlos Martinez and Marcell Ozuna each saw a different ghost while staying at the hotel in 2018, according to Martinez.
