The Independent Business Association of Wisconsin (IBAW) hosts “Fraud Prevention” on Friday, June 16, 2023, 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Event will be held at the Wisconsin Club, 900 W Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, Wis. Event sponsor is Pyramax Bank. A plated breakfast is served.

Steve Kohlmann, executive director of IBAW, said, “Fraud, forgery, and embezzlement have always been an issue in business. Now, with the internet and AI, it’s becoming more complex and harder to detect. How can you protect yourself and your business? What new methods are criminals using to cover their tracks? How much at risk are you? Join us for a sobering morning of business espionage.”

The meeting’s presenter is April DeValkenaere, SBWCP, CFCI, and CEO of Fortress Forensic Investigations, providing justice for at-risk victims of financial exploitation through evidence analysis and forensic investigations. April is a Certified Financial Crimes Investigator, State Bar of Wisconsin Certified Paralegal, and Waukesha County Financial Abuse Specialist Team member. The State DOJ has recruited her to teach White Collar Crimes to law enforcement.

DeValkenaere is the Wisconsin Chapter President of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators and on the Attorney General’s Coordinated Community Response Team. She has been recognized as a WEAAD Warrior (World Elder Abuse Awareness Day) by the National Center on Elder Abuse for her efforts in teaching law enforcement how to investigate elder financial exploitation crimes.

Since 1973, the Independent Business Association of Wisconsin (IBAW) was formed for small business owners to engage in conversation relating to legislation impacting the bottom-line costs of businesses throughout Wisconsin. IBAW is a venue for high-level CEOs, CFOs, COOs, other upper management and entrepreneurs to network, exchange business ideas, and become educated and involved on issues which impact their business.
