MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee is among the worst cities in the United States for renters, more than half of whom fork over at least 30 percent of their monthly income on rent, according to a new Forbes Advisor report.

For the first time in 20 years, U.S. renters on average, spend over the 30 percent threshold for rent, making them rent-burdened, according to the report. In addition, high home prices and rising interest rates are preventing many renters from switching to home ownership, the report said.

In Milwaukee, the situation is worse than most U.S. cities. According to the report, Milwaukee ranks as the 25th worst city for renters in 2023.
