MILWAUKEE, WI — Anyone who hates taking off their shoes and belts when going through airport security will have a chance to opt out of the procedure for at least five years if they enroll in the TSA's PreCheck program during an event that runs at Milwaukee's Mitchell airport in July.

The airport is hosting an enrollment center that kicked off Monday and runs through July 21, according to a news release from the Transportation Security Administration. By enrolling in TSA PreCheck, U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents can make use of expedited security screening, which gives a variety of privileges.

With PreCheck, travelers can keep their shoes, belts and light outerwear on during screenings, the TSA said. People can also keep food in their carry-on, a laptop in its case, and compliant liquids and gels in a carry-on bag during screenings.

Teenagers as young as 13 may also accompany a parent enrolled in TSA PreCheck when traveling under the same reservation and when the indicator shows up on the teen's boarding pass, the agency said. Children under 12 may also accompany a TSA PreCheck enrolled adult without restrictions, according to the news release.

The special enrollment event at Mitchell International Airport, 5300 South Howell Avenue, is located near the Miller Store. It is open 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. on weekdays.

The TSA said people should pre-enroll and make an appointment online to register for the PreCheck event in Milwaukee. Applicants should bring documents proving identity and citizenship, the TSA said. The Universal Enroll website has a list of documents to determine what is needed.

People can make appointments online for the event and complete the process at the enrollment center, the news release said. Walk-ins are also available and applicants are expected to provide fingerprints and a $78 five-year membership fee.

"After completing enrollment, successful applicants will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) via U.S. mail that is valid for five years," the TSA wrote in its news release. "The enrollee should enter the provided KTN in the 'Known Traveler Number' field when booking airline reservations. The KTN also can be added when booking reservations online via a participating airline website, via phone call to the airline reservation center or with the travel management company making reservations. Additionally, the KTN can be entered in participating airline frequent flyer profiles, where it will be stored for future reservations."
