New Third Ward Restaurant 'The Edison' Plans July Grand Opening

Replacing the site of a Wahlburgers, The Edison plans to offer a speakeasy-inspired bar and American cuisine, owners said.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Replacing what was once the site of a Wahlburgers, a new speakeasy-inspired bar and American restaurant called The Edison has announced plans to open by July 5.

The new spot, located at 322 North Broadway in Milwaukee's Third Ward, will serve coal-fired cuts and seafood, shaved prime rib, lobster, steaks and other classic dishes, according to a news release from Benson's Restaurant Group. The group is also behind the likes of Onesto, AJ Bombers, Smoke Shack and more.

The bar portion will serve a selection of spirits with nostalgic cocktails that have a modern twist. Plus, local draft beers and an "approachable" wine list, the restaurant group wrote in a news release.

“We’re thrilled to debut our newest restaurant, The Edison, to the community. In an amazing location, with unparalleled atmosphere and delicious food and drink, we can’t wait to welcome guests for any meal of the day and happy hour,” said David Marcus, CEO of Benson’s Restaurant Group, in a news release.

Outdoor seating at the new spot will accommodate 44 people with an indoor capacity of 140. Walk-ins may find the place staffed in part by June 30 as employees train for a full-service opening and reservation system launch in July, the news release said.
