Unhealthy Air Quality Lingers In Milwaukee Area Amid Smoke, Ozone

WISCONSIN β€” Much of Wisconsin is under an air quality alert until 10 p.m. Friday amid surface ozone and aged Canadian wildfire smoke, according to the National Weather Service.

By 8:30 a.m., Milwaukee and Waukesha counties were under an unhealthy air quality alert, according to Wisconsin's monitoring data. The NWS said that peak ozone concentrations are expected from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., with sensitive groups experiencing unhealthy air quality statewide.

During peak ozone, people with lung diseases like asthma, plus children, older adults and outdoor workers should reduce or avoid prolonged exertion, forecasters said.

Amid the air quality alerts, a warm and dry weekend could be ahead before Sunday. Some hot muggy and breezy weather could come Saturday before lingering showers on Sunday, the National Weather Service said.
