Apartments For Adults With Disabilities Proposed In Wauwatosa

The plans include 92 apartment and four townhome units. Up to 23 units will be designated for people with developmental disabilities.

WAUWATOSA, WI—The development team of Bethesda Cornerstone Village and Luther Group are proposing to convert the site, 7501 W. North Ave. into a five-story apartment with designated units for people with developmental disabilities.

The two-acre property was purchased for $2.85 million, according to a news release.

The $31 million project plans on the construction of 92 apartment and four townhome units, along with a BMO Harris bank plus up to two retail spaces and a Discovery Lab, the release said.

To serve people with disabilities, up to 23 units would be set aside for affordable rates, not to exceed 80% of median county income.

The Discovery Lab and additional retail spaces would be designed to provide educational and vocational opportunities for people with disabilities.

A director of activities would be hired to create and customize events and classes for residents.

The first Cornerstone Village opened in 2020 in Minnesota and another is planned for 3200 W. Highland Blvd. in Milwaukee, the former home of Aurora Family Service.

In 2021, Bethesda Cornerstone Village proposed apartment development at the Blanchard Street parking lot. The selected project, known as Harlow & Hem by Mandel Group Inc. was selected for the parking lot site, 1330 N. Wauwatosa Ave.

City reviews and approvals are pending. If approved, groundbreaking would occur in 2022, the release said.
