School District Celebrates Opening Of Wauwatosa Aquatic Center
The community facility was funded by a generous donation from Wauwatosa High School alumni John and Tashia Morgridge.

The Wauwatosa School District held a hybrid in-person/virtual grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting event at the Wauwatosa Aquatic Center inside Wauwatosa East High School. The event is the culmination of months of construction, which was funded by a generous donation from Wauwatosa High School alumni John and Tashia Morgridge. Mr. Morgridge was also a proud member of the 1951 State, Suburban and Cardinal Relays champion swim team.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Wauwatosa School Board including Ms. Leigh Anne Fraley, Mr. Shawn Rolland and Ms. Sharon Muhlfeld, along with Superintendent Dr. Phil Ertl and Wauwatosa East Principal Mr. Nick Hughes. Student athletes from Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa West High Schools attended the ceremony and participated in a ceremonial first lap and first dive, which were followed by a tour of the facility led by Principal Hughes. The tour concluded in the entry of the Aquatic Center where District leadership unveiled a plaque that celebrates the Morgridge family’s contribution.
The small group of in-person attendees observed social distancing guidelines, and the event was broadcast on the Wauwatosa School District Facebook page to allow members of the community to participate virtually. Photos of the event can be found here.

“The Wauwatosa Aquatic Center is opening at a time when community is more important than ever, and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity to provide students and members of our community with this state-of-the-art facility,” said Dr. Phil Ertl, Wauwatosa School District Superintendent. “We’re honored to receive such a generous donation from the Morgridge family, who has done so much to support and honor Wauwatosa. Their impact on our community will be felt for decades to come.”
The Wauwatosa Aquatic Center will be used by students at Wauwatosa East, and will also be open for community use via the Wauwatosa Recreation Department.
