Wauwatosa School District Down To 3 Finalists For Superintendent

WAUWATOSA, WI—The Wauwatosa School Board has selected three finalists for the position of Wauwatosa School District superintendent, according to the District.

The Wauwatosa School Board approved the notice of retirement provided by Superintendent Dr. Phillip Ertl, effective June 30, 2021, during a special session in December.

The Wauwatosa School Board has completed six preliminary interviews, researched the backgrounds of the candidates and selected three finalists:

Mark Holzman: Mark has been Superintendent of the Manitowoc School District for 5 years, had served as the Assistant Superintendent in Sheboygan for 4 years with other school leadership experience in Howards Grove and Fond du Lac. Mark is completing his Ed.D from Marion University.

Demond Means: Demond is serving with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as Director of Title One (poverty) and School Support Programs. He has been Superintendent of the Clarke County School District (Athens, Georgia) for two years, was Superintendent of the Mequon-Thiensville School District for 9 years and has leadership experience in Wauwatosa, Maple Dale, and Nicolet districts. Demond earned his Ed.D. from Cardinal Stritch University.

Kurt Schneider: Kurt has been Superintendent of the Northern Suburban Special Education District #804, a consortium of 18 school districts in the northern Chicago Suburbs for 5 years. He had been Assistant Superintendent for Learning (Pupil Services/Curriculum & Instruction) in District #181 in Hinsdale, Illinois for 4 years. Kurt has 8 years of school leadership experience in Stoughton, Wisconsin. Kurt earned his Ph.D. from UW-Madison.

Each Finalist will spend a day in the school district and community on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday. Two important events will be held near the end of each day: Community Forum, which will be livestreamed for the community via the Wauwatosa School District. A recording will be published to the YouTube channel following the Forums.

An extensive final interview with the board will be conducted in closed session.

The board will work the week of April 26 to make final inquiries and finalize contract arrangements. The new superintendent will be announced to the community the week of May 3.
