Brian Anthony Hernandez is an avid runner, music lover and longtime journalist who gained extensive editorial experience working at top newspapers in Phoenix, Cleveland, Milwaukee and Des Moines early in his career. Later, Brian worked at Billboard, Forbes, MTV, Genius, Fuse, Mashable and Men's Health as an editor, writer, copy editor, social strategist, manager, internship coordinator and diversity advocate in New York City and Los Angeles. Brian also honed his skills as part of the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund and The New York Times Student Journalism Institute. 

Before joining PEOPLE as a writer-editor in 2023, Brian was the Senior Celebrity News Editor at Bustle, where he managed a team of news writers and entertainment editors remotely from San Francisco. With keen editorial judgment and an eye on analytics and data, he pitched, assigned, edited and created news, features, Q&As and SEO content that celebrities, brands, influencers and other publications routinely engaged with or shared. Over the years, he has reported on the entertainment business, the music industry, diversity, equality, social issues, health, crime, courts and major pop culture events such as the Super Bowl, Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, MTV VMAs, Coachella and national elections.

Brian has been picked to be on the voting panels for the MTV VMAs and Shorty Awards. Brian has appeared on TV, online video and radio segments. Brian Anthony Hernandez attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2004 to 2009.
