EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Fire Road was closed for two hours Wednesday morning following an accident that sent two people to the hospital, police said.
Police responded to the 2500 block of Fire Road at 9:37 a.m. A 2022 Ford Ranger driven by Anthony DeJesse, 31, of Ocean City, was traveling south when a 2008 Hyundai Accent driven by Christian Roberts, 24, of Margate, was traveling north, attempting to make a left turn into a parking lot, police said in a news release.
The vehicles collided head on in the northbound lane, police said. The Ranger was knocked into the shoulder, where it came to rest after striking a business sign and utility pole guidewire. The Accent was pushed backward and came to rest in the northbound lane, where the engine compartment caught fire.
Both drivers were treated at the scene and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus in Atlantic City. Police said their injuries were moderate.
