Action needed on child tax credit
How long must families wait? It’s been nearly two months since the House has passed a bipartisan expansion of the Child Tax Credit and sent it to the Senate. Estimates are that this bill will benefit 16 million children in families with low incomes, including 5.8 million kids under the age of 6.
You would think that in an election year, Congress would be eager to pass a tax cut for families (and small businesses). But a few senators are blocking it for political gain. Families should not have to wait months for Congress to pass something that is both popular and necessary.
It is time for senators to show us their hands. If the bill passes, families win. If it fails, senators can explain to voters why they chose to keep children in poverty.
When the Senate returns to Washington after Easter, I urge our senators to demand an immediate vote and then vote YES on the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act.

Kudos for Atlantic City police promotions
I want to congratulate Captain Benjamin, Captain Holland, Captain White Jr., Captain Fair and Captain Dooley on their recent promotion.
These gentlemen represent over 100 years of dedicated service to the Atlantic City Police Department. Needless to say, their promotions are well deserved. All of Atlantic City, from Wards 1 to 6, should be proud of Mayor Small’s historical decision.
This is also historic because it is the first time any Atlantic City mayor has promoted three Black officers at the same time.
Prior to this, there were three Black captains on the Atlantic City Police Department in the 1960s, but they had been appointed at different times. That was more than 60 years ago!
Kudos, Mayor Small. Also, thanks to Rick Richardella and the state for their approval of these promotions. Finally, a nod to late Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver, who I am sure would say “I’m so proud of AC!” and is beaming from heaven above.
Her input and support in this matter was highly valued. I’m so proud of Atlantic City!

You’re praying for the wrong things
The March 7 letter “Democracy or Trump” made me chuckle. After a long rant about President Trump, the letter ends with “Vote for Democracy, Pray for Peace.”
Didn’t we have four years of “peace” (no wars) under the man with the brash personality that made other countries scared to death to try anything? Since the “pray for peace” prayer was answered for four years, maybe it’s time to pray about grocery prices. And victims of crime by gangster migrants. Hmmmm…

Van Drew lying about Social Security cuts
Jeff Van Drew is lying. That is a harsh, hard statement, but it is true. Congressman Pinocchio just said this in a press release: “I want to make it very clear: I outright reject any proposed cuts to Social Security, regardless of who proposes these cuts.”
Van Drew put this out because he is hoping that the voters in his district do not find out that as a member of the conservative Republican Study Committee he agreed to and signed on to a budget proposal last week that cuts Social Security AND privatizes portions of Medicare. Make no mistake, he and his RSC buddies spent a lot of time and effort on this proposal to cut Social Security and Medicare.
Van Drew knew very well what he was supporting!
Van Drew has a habit of saying one thing and then doing another. On March 3, 2022, Van Drew voted no on the all-important Burn Pit Bill that was critical in helping our veterans get medical treatment to fight the ravages of chemical poisoning during combat. When confronted, Van Drew said he voted yes. He lied. Van Drew was the only New Jersey congressman to vote no.
Calling out a congressman is difficult. They have the bully pulpit, and most people do not have the time or means to fact check.
It is my hope that the seniors and veterans in his district see just the type of person Van Drew really is ... unreliable and untruthful.
