A vital component of running credible #carbon projects is the collection of accurate monitoring data so that we can calculate the quantity of emissions our projects are saving. VVB's - Validation Verification Bodies are independent companies who are qualified to review and verify the monitoring data we produce, allowing them to validate our emissions claims. Their findings are then checked by Gold Standard to ensure the highest quality credits are created. For #WorldWaterWeek, we're highlighting one of the monitoring procedures we use for our Safe Water projects - the 5 minute stroke test. This test does what it says on the tin, it measures the volume of water a pump can produce in 5 minutes. They help us to accurately calculate how much safe water is provided by our projects - an important factor in calculating emissions reductions! This week is #WorldWaterWeek hosted by the SIWI - Stockholm International Water Institute! 💧💧💧   Katienne Miranda and Serena Coccioli from the Bristol team have just returned from visiting two of our safe water projects in Zambia which are currently being audited to ensure they meet standards required by the Gold Standard certification. Since 2020, we've worked with Village Water and ECHO and in that time carbon finance has helped us to rehabilitate a total of 1,344 handpumps providing clean water to people across Central and Western Zambia.   We believe in transparency at CO2balance, and as part of World Water Week we're excited to share more about what's involved in running a water project. #cleanwater #sustainability #carboncredits #transparency #water

🌎 It's the International Day of World Indigenous People 🌎 In Guatemala, unequal access to education, employment and infrastructure as well as lasting historical legacies, means health outcomes for indigenous groups are often lower than national averages*. This is despite the fact that they make up 43.8% of the population. 🇬🇹 Estufas Chispa community cookstove project in Guatemala has distributed 8,283 cookstoves since 2020. Many of the users of this country-wide cookstove project belong to Indigenous groups and benefit from being able to use safer, and more efficient cook stoves. Access to clean cooking systems not only improves health outcomes, by reducing indoor air pollution but also supports environmental conservation by decreasing the demand for firewood. 🌽 The communities in our project areas are rather creative with the use of this new source of efficient energy. For Josefa, a mother of five in central Mozambique, the rehabilitation of the broken handpump in her village gives her hope for the future. Clean and safe drinking water means her children's health has improved and she no longer has to walk 5 km a day to collect water 💧 Josefa is one of half a million community members who have benefitted from this project located in Mozambique, implemented in partnership with Village Water and WATSAN Mozambique. Having access to clean water gives Josefa a sense of pride due to her improved hygiene practices. "I look smart and beautiful because of this water, my children are clean and healthy because of this water."   ➡ This project recently delivered its third issuance of carbon credits. 🐠🌱Today is the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem 🌱🐠 🇰🇪 In Kenya, a staggering 80% of mangroves have been deforested. It's a statistic that's sadly echoed around the world, and globally 24 million tonnes of CO2 are released each year due to the loss of the carbon-sequestering tree species. 🌐 With the help of in-country partners Abent Mangrove Conservation Group and COMENSUM SHG Group, the Mtwapa Creek Mangrove Project plants and monitors mangrove seedlings in Kilifi County. Their local expertise is essential to successful project implementation. 🌿 Planting has been supported by Climate Impact Partners and their clients since 2020. 🇪🇷 Updates from Eritrea 🇪🇷 We are thrilled to share with you that @Vita and CO2balance have collaborated on a new safe water project in Eritrea, which has repaired 179 boreholes and plans to fix 181 in total! This will help an incredible 82,900 people access clean and safe water. In the Red Sea and Gash Barka Regions of Eritrea Co2balance and Vita Green Impact Fund have partnered to fix broken community water points that have fallen into disrepair. This project reduces the burden of water collection that often falls on women and children by providing more local water sources. 🛠️💧 Vita Ireland recently hosted a Local Stakeholder Consultation in Massawa, on the coast of the Red Sea. 73 participants attended including water committee members, water technicians, community leaders and government officials. These consultations help our projects to be more considerate of local needs and also allow us to plan for training sessions like WASH and maintenance training.
