The Republican Party officially named former President Donald Trump as its presidential nominee for the 2024 presidential election in November during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday (July 15).

The delegation from Florida gave Trump more than the 1,215 delegates needed to officially claim the nomination. Trump's son, Eric, made the announcement while standing next to Tiffany and Donald Trump Jr.

While the roll call vote was taking place, Trump announced that he had picked Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate.

Trump has been the presumptive nominee since Nikki Haley dropped out of the Republican primary after Super Tuesday. She was the last candidate in the race after other hopefuls, including Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, Tim Scott, and Vivek Ramaswamy, dropped out as Trump cruised to easy victories in all of the early primary states.

Trump and Vance will face off against the presumptive Democrat nominees, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, in November.
