Victoria Sanchez

Anchor

Victoria Sanchez anchors 7News at 4 p.m. and is the Health and Wellness reporter.

She works to be an impartial journalist, bringing humanity to the often faceless stories that fill up social media feeds. During the pandemic, when the numbers of sick and dying skyrocketed, Sanchez reached out to local families and medical first responders to share their personal stories of loss and survival.

In 2020, Sanchez was one of the only journalists allowed into one of the largest COVID hospital units in the Washington metro region. She was honored with an Emmy and Associated Press award for her coverage.

Sanchez joined the WJLA team in January 2018. Before heading to the East Coast, she worked in Denver at KUSA-TV as a reporter and fill-in anchor. Before Colorado, she was the weekend anchor and reporter at KEYT-TV in Santa Barbara, California. She began her news career in 2010 at KCOY-TV and KKFX-TV in Santa Maria, California.

Before covering news, Sanchez was a public information officer for the County of Santa Barbara for two years.

Victoria graduated from Santa Barbara City College with her associate's degree and transferred to the University of Southern California to earn a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. Victoria also has a master's degree in Public Administration from California State University, Northridge.

Her love of journalism was sparked during her senior year at Bishop Garcia Diego High School in Santa Barbara. Sanchez's teacher, Dan Yokubaitis, encouraged her to pursue a career in news and she credits him for playing an instrumental role in where she is today.

Sanchez loves spending time with her daughter and husband. She also loves to train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, watch cooking shows and The Price Is Right. The game show reminds her of the time she won a car on the show with Bob Barker when she was in college. It’s a funny story she loves to share. Although not a daredevil, Victoria went skydiving once – and that was enough for her!

Feel free to reach out to Victoria with story ideas, and questions or just to say hi.
