Program: Francis Spufford on his historical fiction gumshoe noir novel Cahokia Jazz

Space to play or pause, M to mute, left and right arrows to seek, up and down arrows for volume.

English writer Francis Spufford is an academic, nonfiction writer, memoirist and novelist. All his novels are historical fiction, but his latest, Cahokia Jazz, presents an alternative history of the 1920s, in which Native Americans have control of a city and its laws.

This, combined with noir smokiness and a population on the verge of revolution, makes for an intoxicating mix. Spufford speaks with Kate Evans from ABC RN’s The Bookshelf.
