Troy Armstrong, charged with the 2023 murder of ex-wife Kristy in a car crash, dies after being found unresponsive in jail

A man accused of murdering his former wife Kristy Armstrong in the New South Wales Central West has died in hospital.

Troy Andrew Armstrong, 35, was accused of killing Ms Armstrong in a car crash at Molong in June 2023.

He was subsequently charged with murder and attempted murder.

Mr Armstrong has been in custody since last June.

Corrective Services NSW released a statement saying the man was found unresponsive in his cell at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre in Silverwater on Tuesday.

A spokesperson said he was "immediately given first aid and taken to hospital but was pronounced deceased".

"As a matter of protocol, Corrective Services NSW and NSW Police investigate all deaths in custody regardless of the circumstances," the spokesperson said.

Mr Armstrong was due to make his first court appearance in July.
