Alabama Crimson Tide Odds

Alabama football has been the model of consistency and stability over the last 15 years. Entering 2024, we have a very new-look Crimson Tide.

Nick Saban has retired. Former Washington coach Kalen DeBoer is in. And for the first time in what feels like forever, Alabama is not among the top three betting choices to win the national championship. You can track Alabama’s national title odds all season. Entering 2024, we have Alabama outside the top 5 in our college football betting power ratings and about 10 points worse than Georgia, meaning the Tide would be a 10-point underdog to UGA on a neutral field.

Here’s how you can bet on Alabama this season, and some key things to know.

Betting on Alabama

There are any number of ways to bet on Alabama football this season. There’s the aforementioned futures, like SEC Championship odds, college football win totals, or even the Heisman Trophy market.

Then you’ll have your game-to-game markets, like moneylines, point spreads and totals (also known as an over/under).

Betting Alabama’s moneyline

Alabama went 152-22 on the moneyline in the Nick Saban era. But since they were priced as such a big favorite so regularly, it wasn’t always a good bet. Per our Bet Labs database, betting Alabama in every game since 2007 would have produced a 7.3% ROI and more than 12 units of profits.

So how does a moneyline work, exactly? Here’s how it might look at a sportsbook like DraftKings or FanDuel:

• Alabama -200
• LSU +160

The minus (-) and plus (+) signs distinguish the favorite from the underdog, making Alabama the favorite in this scenario. Odds can be understood more clearly if you think in terms of $10 or $100 increments. A wager on the Crimson Tide odds would mean every $200 bet nets $100 in profit (and your $200 back). And it's the opposite for underdogs: Here the LSU moneyline was set at +160, meaning a $100 wager would profit $160 (and your $100 back).

You won’t find many bettors laying a huge moneyline price like -600, but favorite moneylines are often used as parlay pieces – tying multiple games together to increase your payout. Betting point spreads

If you don’t want to lay big prices with Alabama’s moneyline, you may be more interested in taking the point spread.

A point spread is a bet on the margin of victory and is the great equalizer in sports betting. Elite teams like Alabama are still expected to be about .500 against the spread since the market adjusts based on the ability of each team, plus other factors like injuries and recent form.

• Ole Miss +2.5 ( -110)

There are two parts to every point spread – the spread itself (which is the margin of victory) and the odds (which is what your payout will be). In this example, Alabama is a -2.5 favorite, meaning they must win by 3 or more points to cover the spread. You’re paying -110, meaning you must wager $1.1 for every $1 you want to win. Betting the total

The third major market in college football betting is the total, aka the over/under. With this bet, you’re just trying to predict whether or not the total number of points scored will be higher or lower than what’s listed by the sportsbook.

In Georgia vs. Alabama in the 2023 SEC Championship Game, the total was listed at 54.5. If you bet the over, you need the game to have 55+ points. If you bet the under, you need 54 points or fewer.

• Over: 54.5 (-115)
• Under: 54.5 (-105)

Like with the point spread, there’s also a corresponding payout with the over and under. In this case, you must wager $1.15 for every $1 you want to win if you bet the over, and $1.05 for every $1 you want to win if you bet the under.

Alabama player props & more

The availability of college props varies by state, and the list of states has shrunk in the last year after several college betting scandals.

If props are available, you’ll find things like yardage over/unders for specific players (passing, rushing, receiving) touchdown props, and more. U.S. sportsbooks will offer far fewer markets for college players than they will for the NFL for a variety of reasons.
