Our Favorite Moisturizers for Fall

Somehow, out of nowhere, it became November, and with November comes cooler days and dryer air. Many of us are suddenly finding our faces a little tight and a lot less glow-y than usual. Are you in the same boat? Time to start looking for a new moisturizer. Keep an eye out for creams that contain at least one (two is even better) of the following ingredients: glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or ceramides. Then, once you've found one you like, get the most out of it by applying it to damp but not dripping-wet skin. Dermatologists agree it's the best way to seal in the moisture that's already there. I've rounded up a few of our staffers' favorites, each one formulated for a different skin concern. Take a look:

For sensitive skin: My skin has always been temperamental, and last year I was diagnosed with mild rosacea. Oddly enough, I also have very oily skin, so I have to be careful to use products that won't make me even oilier. The minute I felt my face getting dry, I switched to Eau Thermale Avène Skin Recovery Cream. It's rich enough to soothe the dryness and the redness, and since it's formulated for hypersensitive skin, there's no chance of a zit the next day.

For acne-prone skin: Assistant editor Catherine O'Neill struggles with acne, so finding a moisturizer that doesn't aggravate her skin is nearly impossible. She recently happened upon a new cream, Evologie Stay Clear Cream. "Dryness and acne is the worst combination, but this cream legitimately moisturizes without making me break out," says Cat.

For combination skin: "When it gets colder out, my combination skin goes whacky," says editorial assistant Alexandra Owens. "My chin stays oily, my cheeks get dry, and my nose gets very dry." Her secret weapon is Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator. "I apply it everywhere but my chin, and it leaves my cheeks baby soft and stops my nose from flaking."

For a natural option: Beauty director Patricia Tortolani slathers a body cream over her face during the cold months. Her pick: Tracie Martyn Shakti Resculpting Body Cream, which is loaded with black currant lipids and natural oils like green tea and Bulgarian rose. "It takes a little longer to sink in than other creams, but I absolutely love how it makes my skin feel," she says.
