Only downside to this tablet as a cheaper option for kids, is that Youtube Kids won’t install on it (but Youtube will). All the other apps work fine, Netflix, Disney+, etc.
i think it is excellent for the price. The size is good. Speaker is good. Bought a good case for it cheaply. Recommend!!

There's a reason it's inexpensive, but that's not a bad thing

So, I've had this about a month now. I'm on limited income and can't afford more expensive, and yes, there's a tradeoff with that. But it's not horrible.

The good: You get a long of bang for your buck. Keeping in mind the price, you get a fully functioning tablet. It does the job and it does it well, though sometimes a little slower than other tablets with more processing power.

The bad: Those transitioning over from Apple will be in for some app shock. There are very few apps that us Apple users are used to having. There's no Reddit app, no Discord app (well, there are - but they suck) and the huge selection of authorized apps that Apple has are not seen here.
If you want any of the 'big' apps, like Monopoly Go or other very heavy memory-using apps, they will not function due to not enough processor power and will crash.
This is also an Andriod device. The protections and much less invasive usage Apple users are used to are not found here. You have to do some customizing (which you'll need to Google for on how to do, as some are hidden a tad too cleverly) to get some of the stupidity shut down/turned off, but it IS possible and doesn't take long.

The ugly: When using web pages, tapping on links can be difficult. Something is a little off with where your finger touches vs. where it actually touches. This means that, if you are on a page that is link heavy, you might not get what you are tapping at and might have to tap a little higher/lower than you're used to.
In regards to the lack of app availability, one of the more ugly things is that there are no banking apps. I'm fine not having an app for frivolous things like Discord or Reddit (and yet they certainly have Crackbook, Instagram, and TikTok, annoyingly), but not having bank apps is just ugh.

Overall, you get exactly what you pay for: A less expensive option to the iPad or bigger tablets. In doing so, you give up some things (like fast processor speed, accuracy, and apps), but I don't find that a horrible thing, especially as I can't afford a bigger device. This one does what I want: Function as a tablet, e-reader, and movie/TV watcher.

The apps for streaming devices are alive and well, which is a Very Big Deal for most users. I'd recommend this to anyone as an alternative to bigger (and by 'bigger', I mean bigger processors) tablets, but this is not the device you'd buy when you want to get some serious work done.

Okay after much frustration and experiment I finally got it to work. First of all you should know that GOOGLE PLAY is NOT installed and you need to get the work around downloaded and installed in order to download it to work. I bought the tablet to read my stories on Wattpad and the play store that the Amazon tablet comes with does not have this app available. But once we got everything downloaded and installed it works wonderfully. Its a bit slow compared to my Samsung phone BUT much better than my e-reader! Would defiantly recommend this device for reading most apps and reading.

Got this for $80 during the 2023 Prime Day sale to keep a child distracted for the hours of travel over several days. Paired with a case, it has fared well for this function. 32 GB is barely acceptable for offline travel with sufficient media plus apps. Plan accordingly.

The only issue is that while it's based on Android, it's locked to the Amazon marketplace, so if you have a large number of purchases on Google Play, and/or prefer not feeding data to Amazon in exchange for a decent child distraction device, you'll likely want to look elsewhere, or look up ways to really reduce the functionality and convenience the device kinda offers in order to get Google Play and other apps on it.

If you're prepared for this - either locked to Amazon, like Kindle devices, or "jailbreaking" it - (if the 2022 version is even available anymore), then it'll meet expectations if you get it on sale. Otherwise, there's cheap unlocked Chinese tablets out there that meet these specs with Google Play services on them by default.

You can get everything you want from an Android tablet without all the advertising. Granted I'm Canadian and they (Amazon) shaft us for that but when you can't even get another Amazon Company's app ( Audible) on the darn Kindle you start to wonder a bit.
Nothing but Adverts. Every time I turned around trying to get the thing registered I had to put in my password...over and over again. Went to the Book part of the kindle and my library wasn't the first thing to show up but the store sure was. With one click buying and my password entered six times one wrong touch of the screen would have me buying stuff.
I couldn't get the Web browser to turn off at first. Took me way too long to figure out how to fix that one. Not a clear simple way to do it. The reviews told me that I could go online and fix stuff through the other sites like Audible. But nope! Only way that would work would be with Google Play...kindle won't let you do that. So no Audible...and amazon company. As for games...forget it. The selection is pathetic and a waste of time. I wouldn't let me go to the apps I needed to download library books. Again needed Google Play for that one. Kids will love it...I'm not a kid.
Save yourself some money and go to Walmart and buy an Android tablet. I have just bought one for 80 bucks with 16G Hard drive , expandable to 128G with a card ( That I can buy anywhere not just on Amazon), and it came with a keyboard case!
I won't have to fight with it to get my email, won't have to fight with it to get any free apps (kindle, audible, zoom, youtube, netflix, prime, paramount, crave...and all the rest), and will have a keyboard to make it easier to do as well.

And as a nice cherry on top of that pile of useless crap Amazon charged me 7 bucks each to return the case I bought to go with it and the darn Kindle too. So a $14 dollar lesson on just how Amazon thinks about both its customers and Canadians in general.

Now before you think I'm just a raging jerk I looked at my collection of ereaders. I have three kindles and two kobo's. I have a paperwhite that I bought fiveish years ago. The other two kindles are first generations. I have the first kindle ever made. It has buttons with a keyboard on it. I can read that thing in bright sunlight. The batter lasts for weeks. It has been dropped on a cement floor and other than a dent in the corner nothing is wrong with it. I have the first generation of Fire too. I actually crossed the border in 2012 to get that one. Still going strong. Great screen. Great battery life too. Sucks that even then I couldn't get stuff since I was in Canada but hey I can read my books and it came with Audible! I can go online and check out anything I want to with it.

Amazon charged me 14 bucks to show me that the Kindle line isn't getting better, it's just getting flashier. Give us some backbone and we'll pay the price. Make it so we can get our library books. That's what the Kobo's are for. They know how to share but Amazon doesn't.

I was saving up to buy a Scribe. I bullet journal and was hoping that with a Scribe I'd never have to buy another 25 Dollar journal that only lasted six months. But from what I've read so far in the comments I'll be waiting on that one for a while too. Why can't Kindle share?
