Well lets start with the basics. In my case, the included (basic) stylus just doesn't work. Or rather, it works far too well. When the stylus is an inch off the page, it starts to produce a mark, which unless you're incredibly talented in writing mid-air, makes the device fundamentally useless. Somewhat disconcertingly, Amazon support tell me this is a feature, not a bug, and that the stylus is 'designed to work without touching the page', and won't replace it.

That aside (and I can put that aside as I have two other EMR styluses (stylii?) that I use with my Remarkable, which both work perfectly (and if you were wondering, the amazon stylus produces the same fault when used on the remarkable) - the Scribe works well, with a couple of 'buts'.

My use case - I am an avid kindle reader and would like to combo the kindle functionality with that of the remarkable, which does what it does very well but not much else. In particular, I was keen for the backlight functionality and one device to read my existing library plus be able to write/use as a diary. In this context, so far it seems to achieve that with a few minor quibbles - the 'notebooks' section only contains documents you've created on your kindle, so anything you add is mixed up in your library - this can be overcome to some extent by creating collections, but its a bit more messy than just allowing you to add things to the notebooks (think a diary format, or forms you use regularly, that sort of thing), the ability to change export pen and highlighter color would be welcomed, this is a function I use on the remarkable regularly to mark up documents for work.

Pen usage (again using the remarkable stylus rather than the faulty Amazon one) is reasonably akin to the Remarkable, the pencil function does not feel as natural as the Remarkable which does a better job at recreating shading and angle, but if you're not planning to do serious artistry then it is a minor issue.

Send to kindle functionality works well (right click send-to is easy) and the MS word integration is nice.

Build-wise, once you see the odd open crack on the right-hand side it is hard to unsee, and that along with the probably functional but quite odd rubber feet on the back detract a bit from the feel of a high-quality device.

All up, particularly with the recent software update which brings it closer to par with the Remarkable, it will likely win me over from the Remarkable, which is a little bit slow now as a first-gen device, and the backlight is a functionality I have been craving. Also, if you are already in the kindle ecosystem then it will be a very short learning curve.

Hopefully your experience is better than mine with the stylus.
