I'm writing this bc when I initially received this item, I couldn't figure out how to open it. There's a small tab w/ the blades that has to be pressed down to release the clippers and I wasn't able to budge it. Later, I realized that it simply took some more effort to release. It was great for cutting my cat's nails since it is very sharp and also has the protective piece that means you can't go too far into the nail's quick or blood supply. Great tool so sorry I bashed in first review.

Did not come with the nail file. The package was already open. A bit difficult to understand how to use safety guard, as there were no instructions. I am pleased that they have guard, as they can help me get my dogs nails taken down a bit at a time making sure I don't hit her quick. She is phobic as the vet has previously quicked her. She is still scared to death of these. I think the PTSD will take time to get over but these are sharp and “quick” to use.

So my pup is almost 2yr old. She weights about 17lbs. She's not easy to handle when it comes to clipping her nails. But these nail clipper have been great! They have a safety thing on them and there small. So easy to use and it doesn't take a lot of strength to clip the nail when you squeeze them. The cut is always clean and smooth. They don't make any sound other then the sound of the nail being clipped. I haven't had the need to use the nail file.
