The Shoreline Marine Safety Whistle is a good basic whistle. I store it in my backpack when I'm going hiking or in the wilderness.
The whistle itself is made of plastic. It seems like it would last a while but I'm not sure how much abuse it can take. I could see it getting crushed in your bag if you aren't careful. It is very light and compact, so it should store very easily or you can wear it around your neck.
I don't think it's really that loud but it's definitely not quiet. Loud enough in case of emergency. It doesn't too much effort to blow the whistle.
Overall, the ShoreLine Marine Safety Whistle is cheap and it works. Would definitely purchase again.
