Customer Review

I have owned some of the stainless steel Airscape containers for storing my fresh roasted coffee beans and keeping them as fresh and as air tight as possible. I’ve been using them for a long time. They work great. This ceramic one does not. First of all, the inner lid of the stainless presses down firmly as the air is being pushed out and fits nice and snug after you turn the handle down, sealing the lid. It takes a good amount of pressure to push it in and break the seal once you turn the handle down, even though you aren’t supposed to do this. That means it’s well sealed. The outer lid has a substantial gasket on it and it creates a very nice seal as well and the outer edge sits out beyond the edge of the top of the container. The ceramic version is WIDER than the stainless (you can actually sit the stainless container inside the ceramic one), yet they both use the SAME size lid. The difference is that they just put a big, wide floppy gasket on the lid for the ceramic container. There’s much more gasket than lid on the outer edge. The seal that this creates is weak and you can break the seal by just touching the edge of the inner lid once you turn the handle down. It’s very disappointing. The wood outer lid on the ceramic version has a thin, weak gasket on it and as many people mention, it does not create any kind of good seal either and sometimes just pops back up. The wood lid just barely comes to the edge of the ceramic too which doesn’t help either. The ceramic version is better looking than the stainless, but I wouldn’t put my precious and sometimes pricey beans in it. I’d rather use the stainless version and be confident that they are well sealed. I’ll take performance over looks in this case.
