[UPDATE 11/21/2019] My home experienced a power surge event last night during a thunderstorm. I know this because I saw the lights react. Immediately, the UPS (note: "uninterruptible" power supply) emitted the warning alarm. I went to reset the box, and I noticed that all units powered by the box were shut down. This was within 15 seconds of the surge, and it certainly did not provide uninterruptible power.

As far as providing the services claimed, I have to downgrade my rating to 2-stars. It does seem to have protected my electronics from the surge, but the battery itself did nothing. For reference, the units I had plugged in were a WiFi Router and a PC that was in hibernate.

Reading previous reviews, it seemed like I had about a 10% chance to receive a unit that smoked or caught flame. So far, it doesn't seem like I'm in that category.

This is the kind of device you buy that you hope to never have to use. Most days, it is just a stable power source. On the worst days, you hope it protects your sensitive equipment from surges--not something you can realistically test.

On other days, you expect it to provide you a small window to sustain or react to a power outage. Fortunately, this is easy to "test" by either unplugging the unit or using the PowerPanel software "Self-Test" feature. I did the latter today. I noted that I had 20-30 min of "battery runtime" stored. I hit the "Initiate Self-Test" button--it might as well have been named "Shutdown". My system immediately went down, without so much as a "see ya later".

So far, I don't have much faith that it does what it says on the tin, but other people seem to have other experiences. What gives?
