These are exactly as described and perfect for my purposes. I travel for work and often need a spare water bottle so that I'm not stuck buying an expensive bottle somewhere. They are resilient to being tossed into the bottom of a backpack or purse - they probably wouldn't hold up to something puncturing it, but I didn't feel like pens or jewelry would compromise the plastic sides. I did have to be really careful about twisting the cap on - it did leak on me once because I wasn't mindful.
I'm very sensitive to smells/tastes and haven't found these to be bothersome. Will definitely purchase more when these wear out!
