The grooves on the side of the case is not a gimmick! Combined with the textured rubbery case, it really does a great job staying in your hand.
The case is a durable appearing rubbery/plastic case. It snaps on easily and securely. There's enough clearance on the front that I was able to put on a glass protector without a problem. The buttons are easy to press, and the cutouts are big enough for the charger cable to go through. It's also a magsafe case so it'll work with your magsafe charger if you use one (I prefer to use old fashioned cable since it charges much faster that way).
I was afraid that the light grey color would stain easily or get dirty, but after a couple weeks of use, it still looks new.
I accidentally pushed my phone off of the kitchen counter while in this case and watched as it landed with a heart sickening thud on the edge. I picked it up and noted absolutely no damage to the phone or the case! Winning!
