I've had other ThruNite lights but purchased this one because I needed something super small to fit in any pocket but that was still bright enough to actually illuminate a room in the dark. I've had this light now for over a year and loved it so much I purchased three more for gifts. At one point in time I thought the light had malfunctioned but it turned out a battery had ruptured and leaked fluid all over the inside messing up the contacts. I was able to remove the spring in the bottom, clean out the body, reassemble, and it has worked great ever since!

The three brightness levels are great for a flashlight running on a single AAA battery. The low setting is perfect for reading or walking around familiar places in the dark, while the mid and high brightness settings really can light up a room pretty well. I've been surprised by how far this little light can project on high too. The run time on low is great and totally reasonable on the middle setting too. On high the battery gets used up fairly quickly, but hey, its an AAA!

The actuation of the light is very interesting and I was skeptical about having a non-button-activated light, but it's been doing great. The circuit board where the LED is actually mounted contacts the positive battery terminal in the middle, and on the outer diameter of the circuit board there are several contacts that touch the inside of the body of the flashlight which is connected to the spring and negative terminal of the battery. This means you want to be sure to twist at least half a rotation when you turn it off to make sure it doesn't come on unexpectedly. You cycle through brightness settings by turning the flashlight on and off within a short amount of time. If you wait too long the cycle resets so the next time you turn it off and on it will start on the low settings. The settings to cycle through are: Low, Medium, High, Low, Medium, High, Strobe, then it resets. Honestly, I'm not sure why you would want strobe on this light since you can't access it quickly but it certainly is bright and blinding. You can actuate the light one handed, but it takes a little practice unless you have great dexterity. Being able to reverse the clip is great for throwing it on a baseball hat or something else to make a quick head lamp. For the price I expected something that felt cheap, but this feels like good quality machining, and the lens turns very smoothly (mine came with a nicely lubricated o-ring that makes it feel nice when turning it and keeps moisture out effectively).

I'm pretty rough on this little light since I'm often under cars on concrete rolling over it, but the only thing that has happened is some of the black coating has scratched off. If it were rechargeable that would be cool, but since it uses common AAA batteries replacing them isn't a huge issue, and I've only had to replace mine twice after using it almost daily for several minutes a day for about a year. (I'm typically using it on low or medium).

I'm super satisfied and impressed with this tiny and cost effective light. I'd love to see more awesomeness from ThruNite. :)
