I know Codenames has become one of the best selling games in the world and comes in many varieties. This would suggest that many people really love it. My wife and I are not among those who love it. It's OK to play once in while, but we don't love it.
With Codenames, you will spend long moments staring at the layout of words trying to come up with a clue that will lead the other player to guess which words to select while avoiding words that will abruptly end the game. A lot of thinking. A lot of staring. A lot of frustration. Once in a great while you will actually come up with a stellar clue that leads your partner to correctly guess three or four words in one round. Those experiences are few and far between for us. Either one of us is a bad clue giver or a bad guesser. Either way, for us Codenames isn't great. It's just OK.
