Customer Review

Bought this kettle in 2018, it's been used 3 times a week for hot teas up until January of this year(2020), from that point on it was used daily bc my Mom came to stay with us and she makes her daily coffee with it.

I'm here on Amazon to buy a new kettle because the seal at the bottom of the kettle has started to steam during use and water comes out the bottom, not a lot but still water seeping out of a seal by the electric area is dangerous.

So, I am searching for a different brand. I feel an electric Kettle should last a minimum of 5yrs with daily use, my last Mr. Coffee maker lasted me 12yrs and I got that for $15.

So with such a dangerous flaw, why give it 3 stars instead of 1?

Pros-
• The gooseneck allows for a great amount of control. This is especially important for people like me who have R.A., my hands will occasionally lock up or 'jolt', which with a regular coffee pot or tea pot would usually lead to me get splashed with scalding water or coffee or it ending up on the floor. The gooseneck did not completely eliminate this problem but it would only splash a couple droplets all of which never splashed me because the gooseneck kept the water farther away from me. If it fell out of my hands it landed harnlessly on my counter without splashing and this was due not only to the gooseneck but also the tight fitting lid with 3 tiny holes.

• It heated water fast and reliably to a consistent temperature, though there was no variable temperature control on it. But it didn't need it, it made it less complicated to use.

• It's extremely idiot proof on how to use. You push a peddle down after filling with water to the max line inside, a little orange light comes on, 60 seconds later water is boiling and the orange light turns off and the peddle pops up letting you know it's ready by looking.

• Another good thing is it's all metal construction for the reservoir and gooseneck. With a plastic bottom layer that match the base.

Now for the Cons-

• Obviously, the biggest con is the heat seal failing by the electrical area.

• The next big negative for me was cleaning the kettle. Obviously it's not safe for the dishwasher and it's not safe to fully submerge it in dishwater, that wasn't a big deal to me. The biggest problem cleaning it was the max water line indicator in the center of the unit inner reservoir. It was severely annoying trying to fit my arthritic hands into the tiny reservoir and constantly being blocked by the max water line. It also made it almost impossible to get every inch perfectly clean.

• It lasted less than half the life of what I feel a product like this should.

Now, I kept it because it worked great and I thought the only real grievance it had was the max water line. Which made it a solid 4 star product.

I let it keep 3 star rating bc it lasted at least 2yrs, heated water reliably, and I never got hurt using it like I did with the coffee maker I originally had.

However, I really had to dock a star bc of the danger. Maybe I really should label it as a 1 star, because water leaking near the electrical source is extremely dangerous, but for 2yrs I got reliable safe use from it.

So instead I will make my review title a warning in the hopes people will think seriously about their needs and if purchasing this item is worth the risk.

I'm also fully willing to admit the kettle I received may have had a mild defect in its manufacturing. However, if that is the case then it is even more important for the company to know they need stricter quality assurance and testing.

If you made it to the end of this review, I thank you for your time. I only hope that this lengthy review helps someone think through their purchase.
