This is a durable space saver that worked really well for us on two trips that spanned about 3500 miles total. It rained, was dusty, and was cold during these trips and everything in the storage was bone dry and unharmed. It really does great keeping things dry and it doesn’t leave an odor on anything. When I first got it, I let it air out for 24 hours as suggested and it was perfect after that.
The gripe I have with this, which I knew coming into it, was how much time it takes to ensure that everything is properly tightened, strapped up, and that I don’t have any loose straps flapping around and fraying. It’s just annoying working with buckles and straps and it takes me a good 20 or so minutes to make sure everything is secure and nothing will be flapping around in the wind. I broke one of the buckles because I got too ham-handed with it and overtightened, but thankfully didn’t rip the lining at all. Again, just annoying how much time it takes, considering I had to take things out and put them back in at nearly every stop.
It’s not a big deal, but for the sake of anyone else considering purchasing it, I have a 2009 Toyota Sienna Limited and this is just barely longer than the roof rack bars from front to back. It’s not enough to make it unusable, but just annoying enough to notice that you have an inch or two that folds up in one end. Again, doesn’t affect performance at all.
The zippers bind a bit on the corners, so it’s tricky sometimes trying to get them to open or close. The zippers, however, are big and durable and feel like they aren’t going anywhere.
The lining material is thick and feels like the waterproof canvas stuff used on rafts. It’s solid and I have had no issues. My preference would be to have a fancy hardshell roof case that would be easy to put things in and take them out, but if you’re on a budget and don’t necessarily need to get items out a lot in your travels, this is a good solution.
