Compare these in price to any other battery and you will see that Amazon's price cannot be beaten. My unscientific comparison to Duracell is that these are just as effective and last just as long. So why pay more for a brand name when Amazon's is just as good, and so much cheaper?
I am repeating this review for all three of the Amazon battery sizes that I have tried and compared to Duracell: the "D," "AA," and the "AAA."

Since purchasing a motion-detecting garbage can, I've needed to keep these packages of batteries in the house because I usually forget to purchase them at the store when/before I need them. Now, I just order a new pack once I put the last of the batteries into the garbage can.

They come packaged in cardboard which I prefer to plastic as it's easier to recycle. It's also much easier to open. And, since it's just a 'regular box' (instead of type of plastic packaging that has a flat upper-portion where the hanger-hole is, and then a larger recess for the batteries) I find it's better for storing the batteries because there isn't an extra piece of packaging sticking off the top, taking up space.

I've had no issues with longevity; however, I haven't used many other brands of D-cell batteries, nor have I used many items that even require D-cell batteries, so I can't speak to how they compare to other brands. However, for the price and the free shipping (especially given the weight of the package), I don't think you can beat this deal.
