chest strap very uncomfortable

This pack has a lot going for it, but what I can't understand is how some of the straps are crazy long, and yet they skimped on the chest strap. That is literally the only thing that makes this pack horribly uncomfortable. I will post a review of this pack on my youtube under "Katie Wandering" if anybody wants to see it. (September 2nd, 2024) It's the video on backpacking with a dog.

I took this on a 7 day mountain backpack trip with a group of teen kids. Each day we tracked 4 to 5 miles up and down the mountain. It had Plenty of ways to adjust it but I found myself not having to make adjustments as much as the more expensive ones that others had. It worked great

Just completed the Rim to Rim to Rim hike at the Grand Canyon which is approx 47-50 miles, with side missions, as well as dramatic elevation changes. I lucked out and had dry weather so I can't speak about the rain fly on the bottom of the bag but there is one and it seems to fit over a full bag. I used the 80L bag to carry my supplies over a 5 day 4 night hike and it held it all and with plenty of zippered pockets to add more if necessary. In the pics my sleeping mat was inside the bag but there are various locations to place a sleeping mat. I brought a sleeping mat that was way too big and heavy but the bag held it just fine. The shoulder straps felt decently comfortable but it could of had a bit more padding and with all the slide buckles I was able to adjust to find a comfortable fit. The bag is adjustable to fit your torso beautifully and the hip belt gives a nice snug fit so the weight sits on your hips nicely. There are pockets on the hip belt but they aren't easy to get into because the hip belt is usually going to be somewhat tight depending on your bag weight which for me was approx 35-40lbs. The side pockets can hold a 32oz Nalgene bottle but like the hip pockets they are too tight to reach back and pull the bottle out and put back. I had to have someone pull and put back the bottle for me. I used my 3L water blabber and it fit fine with the hose coming over the right shoulder and going through the chest strap to hold it. I liked this bag and was kinda impressed with the durability. No tears, zipperes zipped, and hike completed. In summary it is a solid bag that will do what you need it to do. Just plan right and pack it balanced and it will do the job.

Mountaintop 80l vs osprey Ariel 75 AG

I just received this pack today, along with my girlfriends osprey ariel 75 AG for our month long trip to Australia in May. We will be able to do laundry so we will be bringing about enough clothes for a week. As we make our journey I will closely monitor both packs and be able to give a better performance review once we get back. For now, the suspension on the osprey looks like one you would expect on a $330 backpack. The one on my mountaintop looks like a solid $150 pack, but just doesn’t look like it will be as comfortable as the osprey, but it is also less than 1/3rd the price. Both packs seem to have close to the same features. I read a review about someone just recently not getting a pack with the mid pack access, but mine does have it. Not sure what kind of mix up happened there. As of now the pack looks to be well worth the money and I will update when we come back in June.

UPDATE:
We just got back from our trip and I have to say this pack did pretty well. I managed to get 7-8 days worth of clothes into it with the bottom hatch unzipped to use the entire pack, and did not have to get too creative in finding space. In total it weighed somewhere around 30 lbs when I had it fully loaded. As I was using this for a suitcase basically and not actually hiking, I have no idea how this would hold up in extreme environments but it made it through airport baggage so that’s a feat in itself. We only ended up walking max of about 30 minutes at a time with our packs, and it started to be a pain on my shoulders. Moving some weight towards the back and tightening up the belt very tight seemed to have helped but it wasn’t the most comfortable thing in the world. My girlfriend said her osprey felt much better so the osprey wins in the comfort column.
Overall for the +/- $80 I paid for the mountaintop it has done well and I cannot complain too much. If we go on several hiking trips I may break down and spend $300+ on an osprey but for what it’s worth this pack has done very well and got the job done.

I took this backpack on a trip to Wheeler Geologic Feature, a 15mi round-trip out-and-back in the Colorado Rockies. Overall it performed very well and I'm glad to have it.

Likes: This is a very low cost pack compared to other similar products. It has tall side/"kidney" pockets (12"H x 4"D x 2.5"W) that can easily hold tall water bottles or even small tripods, and it has deep mesh water bottle pockets on both sides that stop big water bottles from falling out. It also has a very large "roof" pouch, two drawstrings to close the top section, a great waist buckle/tightener design, and is made of mostly water-resistant material.

Dislikes: Zipper tabs are very small and several don't have string pulls attached. In particular the zippers on the belt pouches are hard to close one-handed, because they don't close smoothly. There is no central hangar strap for a hydration pouch (you have to jerry-rig a string between small loops on the left and right), and the hydration tube port is way too high and only on the right side. Finally, the compression straps on "roof" don't have buckles which means a lot of fussing to store something there, which is also weird because all the others have good buckles.

Also, the height adjustment could have a bigger range. I'd say this pack is just about comfortable up to 6'0" in wearer height. Any taller and there just isn't enough adjustment available.

I would love to see this company come out with an updated version. The issues to be fixed are really very small and some slight adjustments could make this pack really compete with those more than three times the price. All it really needs are:

1. Better zippers on the belt pouches,
2. Hydration ports lowered, and made on both sides,
3. Two or three more "height adjustment" loops - there's plenty of space for them, they just aren't sewn in,
4. Buckles on top compression straps,
5. Central hangar for hanging a hydration bladder inside.
