I found some ceramic bowls on the street that I tested and it turns out one of the bowls had lead in it. I tested it again and it came out positive again. Pictured is an example of a negative test (yellow) and the positive test (purple tinge)

Tested this on multiple products that contained no lead, then tested it on a solid lead drain pipe in my house - the lead pipe test caused the mustard orange swab (as it's described as when wet and ready to test) to nearly immediately turn a very dark shade of red. Very easy to use and seemingly very accurate based on how quickly it changed colors, these swabs are a great way to gain some peace of mind about an otherwise invisible danger. For how many swabs you get and how often one may need them coupled with their long shelf life, these provide immense value and peace of mind. Recommended if you are in need of a way to check for lead.

If you are remodeling an older home, dealing with old plumbing or just curious about your environment then these testers are a good choice. Lead can be harmful, especially to children, and if you think there's a source of lead in your environment then you should probably check it out. When we had renovations done on our home they detected lead in the exterior paint. The replacement windows specialists had to suit up to complete the job. These testers are easy to use, just wet the end and shake off the water. Let the mustard color develop on the swab and then wipe over the test area. In the picture I checked around the kitchen sink with the left swab and wiped a piece of old stained glass with the right one. I didn't see anything worrying on the sink swab but the stained glass one immediately turned magenta / purple. I knew it would, but was surprised how quickly it showed a result. Now I'm going to go around the house and check some older interior paint and see what I find out. Worth the money if you want to know for sure.

These are simple lead testers, consisting of swabs soaked with a chemical that will react with lead. Its a simple chemical reaction, and test kits like these are easy to come by. However, most other test kits will only give you a couple of swabs to test with, and are much more expensive. This pack of swabs contains 60 and is a lot cheaper. The operation is easy; you just moisten the swab with water and then rub it against the item you wish to test. The chemical reaction will cause a noticeable change in the coloration of the swab in the presence of lead. The tests seem accurate enough, and I'll update this if I find any reason to suspect the accuracy.

These are easier to use than the other types that come with separate solution you have to use - since with these, you just use water. I've tested all kinds of glass wear and ceramic wear once I received this. I have not seen any positive hits yet which is a big relief. I do wish it came with some tester objects to make sure it's working correctly though - but looking at reviews of all the other units like this, these seem to indicate lead okay when it's on the surface. Considering there have been various controversies with lead in cheap drink wears and coolers, I think these are a must have.

I live in a circa 1908 house, and I've always wondered how much lead paint is still in my house. Well, I used these sticks, and discovered that all of my original glass windows and shutters have lead in them. I'm glad that a product like this is available and affordable, because once my budget allows, I can now prioritize replacing, disposing of, or containing all of my leaded house fixtures and features. A great purchase!
