You Can Stay in an Oscar Mayer Weinermobile at Lollapalooza

Here’s How You Can Spend a Night in an Oscar Mayer Weinermobile Hot Dog

There are peer-to-peer online house rental services, and then there’s Airbnb. Much like there are cars, and then there’s the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile. Next month, you could head to the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago and stay in a hotel, or you could book a bunk in this American icon that celebrates everything that is good and right about franks and buns.

You read that correctly: Oscar Mayer is renting out one of its Weinermobiles on Airbnb for the duration of Lollapalooza. If they’re lucky, frankfurter fans can land a night in the hot dog car and live the Oscar Mayer dream — which includes a mini-fridge stocked with Chicago-style hot dog essentials, a take-home roller grill, and a “Sun's Out, Buns Out” welcome package.

The Bun Mobile

If you’re to stay in a Weinermobile you need to know your Weinermobile history. These things aren’t new, having first appeared on roads in 1936 to promote and advertise Oscar Mayer products throughout the United States.

The modern version being used for the Lollapalooza promo is 27-feet long and comes with a whole host of music festival appropriate features: there’s a sunroof, a bed, a sitting area, and a rather winsome looking hot dog picnic zone where friendly strangers (or your strange friends) can come to discuss music and the many virtues of the humble hot dog. Elsewhere, there are frankfurter-themed mugs and an “I’m Just Here For The Hot Dogs” pillow on the couch.

How to Sleep Like a Log in the Dog

A night in the Weinermobile for you and a plus one (no stoned hot dog groupies allowed, son) will set you back a very reasonable $136 a night. But if that sounds too good to be true, it kinda is — there are only limited spots available for this very particular experience. Reservation opportunities will roll out throughout the day on July 24, so you’ll need to keep your eyes on the listing for the chance to submit a request and land your desired date.

As for where in Chicago you’ll be staying, the listing has it placed somewhere in the snazzy Fulton Market district. According to Airbnb, its features include lofts, warehouses, designer hot dogs, a vibrant art community, North Face jackets, Lululemon yoga gear and art galleries. Sounds like you’ll fit right in.
