PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — It’s that time of year again when Yelp announces the top 100 restaurants in the country, according to Yelp users. Eight Arizona restaurants made the user review company’s “Top 100 Places to Eat in 2024,” with four of them making the list last year, 2023.

#1. Tumerico | 2526 E 6th St, Tucson, AZ 85716 (Google map) | Tues, Sun 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., W–Sat 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

This vegetarian Mexican restaurant on 6th Street in Tucson was ranked No. 8 last year. So, congratulations to Tumerico on taking No. 1 this year! Yelp reviewer Kate S. had this to say of Tumerico in 2023: “It’s not vegetarian food that happens to be great -- it’s great food that happens to be vegetarian.”

#14. De Babel | 14884 N Pima Rd, Scottsdale AZ, 85260 (Google map) | M-Sat 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Last year, this Middle Eastern restaurant in Scottsdale was ranked No. 26. Owned by Marwan Kandeel, who lived in Jordan and Dubai before moving to Arizona, he brought Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines for the Valley to enjoy! Some of the restaurant’s popular dishes include the Chicken Tawook Sandwich and Gyro Sandwich.

#36. Worth Takeaway | 218 W Main St, Mesa, AZ 85201 (Google map) | M-Sun 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.

With breakfast served from 8 to 11 a.m. and a happy M-F from 4 to 6 p.m., this sandwich shop in Mesa opened nearly 9 years ago. Serving sit-down restaurant quality foods but with the speed of a fast food place, this locally owned, independent shop also offers burritos, appetizers, wine, and booze! Wearing their hearts on their sleeves, owners Kelsey and Jim Bob Strothers say on the company website that 2020 was a reckoning for the restaurant industry.

“2020 was a disruption and humans aren’t willing to put up with being dehumanized anymore,” they said. “So, if you want to eat with us and have a good meal and experience, we will put every effort forward to try and do this. If we miss the mark, we will take actions to make it right, but we need to be given the opportunity to do so, and we need to have communication on what would make it right for you.”

#39. Buendia Breakfast & Lunch Café | 2530 N 1st Ave, Tucson, AZ 85719 | T-Sun 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

This Tucson restaurant was Yelp’s No. 26 last year. Chef-owners Julio and Jael Garcia make the best brunch in the city, with giant servings of homestyle Mexican cooking, according to Yelp reviewers. Some popular dishes include Stuffed Poblano Pepper (filled with melted cheese and a corn tamale in green sauce), Huevos Rancheros (fried eggs on corn tortillas with salsa) and more.

#50. Baja Café on Broadway | 7002 E Broadway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85710 (Google map) | M-Sun 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.

You can probably expect a long line for this Tucson Mexican restaurant. The original location on Broadway is located in a small strip mall housed in an even smaller building. But not to worry! You can enjoy their food sitting inside, sitting outside or taken to-go. Alongside traditional Mexican fare are crepes, burgers, and more.

#52. Cocina Madrigal | 4044 S 16th St, Phoenix, AZ 85040 (Google map) | Sun-Thurs 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., F–Sat 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.

After taking the No. 1 spot in 2022, this Latino-owned business in south Phoenix dropped to No. 57 in 2023 and up to No. 52 this year, which, when you consider how many restaurants there could possibly be in the country, isn’t really a fall from grace. And frankly, what can be said about Cocina Madrigal that hasn’t already been said? Just go already.

#68. La Chaiteria | 1002 W Congress St, Tucson, AZ 85745 (Google map) | Sun., T-Thurs 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., F-Sat 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.

This Latin American restaurant is best known for its vegetarian and vegan dishes, but they do offer meat in their offerings. The business’s most popular dishes are Al Pastor Tacos, Huevos Rancheros, Cuban Tacos (with jackfruit carnitas), and Vegan Ropa Vieja.

#85. Sirens’ Cafe & Custom Catering | 419 Beale St, Kingman, AZ 86401 (Google map) | M-F 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Open for lunch only, this Kingman café, opened in 2009, makes one exception: Pizza night on Thursdays from 5 – 8 p.m. This small city cafe in downtown Kingman has some of the best sandwiches, according to some Yelp reviewers, like the Curry Tito (curry chicken salad with green apple, craisins, and cashews).
