Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric delivers a completely new action-adventure gameplay experience for Sonic fans. The detailed levels and emphasis on each character’s unique abilities give players more choice in exploration as they work as a team to stop the deadly snake-like ancient villain, Lyric, before he can power up his army. Players will be challenged by over-the-top speed runs, but the heart of the game is focused on intense combat and brand-new abilities including the Enerbeam. This energy-charged cord can be used by characters to navigate the world like never before. Swing or zip-line across gaps, grab and throw enemies, take away their shields in combat, and explore alternate paths filled with lush environments and landscapes.

I expected this to be much worse. I played it on Cemu with performance patches, and with a friend along for the ride. We breezed through levels, laughed about how much dialogue was going off constantly, experienced a handful of glitches but very few that hindered our progress. The performance and presentation are as bad as I expected, but we still beat it with ease. took 2 longer sessions. Better than what Shattered Crystal asked of me. Still, I don't miss this side series.
gonna be honest: I like a lot of the ideas this game has. Slowing Sonic down and making it a platformer beat 'em up is actually the best way a Sonic game can be done, in my opinion. Granted, it could be executed better (and probably would have if Sega didn't mess with the dev team) but it's passable
as for the rest of the game... I mean, it's glitchy, sure, but I don't know why people consider this game so rancid. It's about on-par with the rest of the Sonic franchise. I even think these character designs are better than their normal ones. And the dialogue is slightly less annoying than in a lot of the other Sonic games from this era.
overall I think people really overreacted when it came to this game. I wouldn't call it good, but it's passable. It's a decent time-waster, at least. Lyric had a cool design and concept too so I'd love to see him again.
I wish Sticks wasn't just a random NPC in this one though. I think she's playable in the 3DS games but it's a shame she wasn't in this one
