Hull MP handed Home Office role in new government

Dame Diana Johnson has been given a ministerial role as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer continues to shape his government.

The Hull North and Cottingham MP will serve as a minister of state in the Home Office, after her appointment was confirmed by King Charles III.

An MP since 2005, Dame Diana chaired the Home Affairs Committee until Parliament was dissolved for the general election.

She served as an assistant whip and parliamentary under-secretary for schools in the last Labour government.

Dame Diana's seat was redrawn in last year's Boundary Commission review, but she was re-elected on Thursday with a majority of more than 10,000.

She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2020 New Year Honours list for charitable and political service.
