The Jersey International Air Display has launched an appeal to the public to help its fundraising towards ensuring that this year's display can take place.

To date, about half of the funding had been secured through government grants and corporate sponsorship, but the organisation said "there is more to do" for 2024.

The display is watched in person and online by more than 50,000 people and is the largest free event on the island.

Event organiser Mike Higgins said he welcomed the support of the government and Ports of Jersey, but they were now calling on help from the public.

'DNA of our island'

"In previous years, various amounts up to £100,000 were received as a grant.

"However, this year, due to budgetary restrictions, the annual grant has been limited to £40,000 and, sadly, costs have not gone down and, in fact, have increased substantially.

"This year we have established a fully functional crowdfunding page and would be extremely grateful for any support that people can give."

The organisers added that the display was "part of the DNA of our island community" and that it was a "significant event" in the island’s calendar.

The show is scheduled to take place on 12 September.
