An investigation has been launched into the Ligue 2 game between Bordeaux and Rodez which was abandoned after a pitch-invader attacked a player.

The disciplinary committee of French football's governing body, the LFP, are examining the incident after Rodez's Lucas Buades was pushed over by a pitch-invader.

Rodez was removed on a stretcher and the referee abandoned the game, saying Buades had suffered a concussion injury.

The result left Bordeaux's hopes of promotion in doubt.

The club needed to better Metz's result to win promotion, while Rodez needed a victory as they sought to avoid relegation.

With the final round of Ligue 2 games taking place at the same time on Friday, Metz beat Bastia 3-2 to move into the second promotion spot behind champions Le Havre.

That result meant Bordeaux would have to beat Rodez by four goals to get promoted on goal difference, but they were 1-0 down when the match was abandoned.

"In view of the seriousness of the facts, the LFP Disciplinary Committee decided to put the case under investigation, a measure mandatorily imposed by the Disciplinary Regulations," said an LFP statement., external

A decision on the investigation and result of the match is set to be made on 12 June.
