  • Browns' Jamari Thrash: Awarded roster spot

Thrash made the Browns' initial 53-man roster Tuesday.

Thrash, a 2024 fifth-round draft pick out of Louisville, was one of six wideouts on the Browns' first 53-man roster, beating out Michael Woods and James Proche for a spot. He ended the preseason on a high note with a 46-yard touchdown reception last week and caught 10 of 16 targets for 141 yards over three preseason contests.

  • Browns' Jamari Thrash: Makes strong case in finale

Thrash brought in four of six targets for 73 yards and a touchdown in the Browns' 37-33 preseason loss to the Seahawks on Saturday night. He also committed a fumble recovered by Cleveland.

Thrash tied several teammates for the team lead in receptions while setting the pace in receiving yards. The rookie fifth-round pick recorded his touchdown on a 46-yard grab from Dorian Thompson-Robinson early in the second quarter, capping off a solid preseason that saw him make what might be a formidable case for a role on the back end of the wide receiver depth chart. Thrash's status as a rookie draft pick could also certainly help his cause, as does David Bell's quadriceps injury.

  • Browns' Jamari Thrash: Three grabs Saturday

Thrash caught three of five targets for 25 yards in Saturday's 27-12 preseason loss to the Vikings.

The Browns sat all their starters and key reserves, and none of Amari Cooper (undisclosed), Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore and Cedric Tillman were on the field. That created opportunities for the team's depth wideouts, and Thrash, a 2024 fifth-round pick out of Louisville, finished the day tied for the team lead in targets with running back D'Onta Foreman. With David Bell (quadriceps) currently sidelined, there could be an opening for Thrash to win the No. 5 spot on the wide receiver depth chart to begin the season.

  • Browns' Jamari Thrash: Cleveland ends slide in fifth round

The Browns selected Thrash in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 156th overall.

Thrash (6-feet, 188 pounds) is a graceful wideout with good speed (4.46-second 40-yard dash) and was productive enough at Louisville and Georgia State for people to suspect he has real skill as a wideout. The problem for his pro projection is that Thrash looks and plays like a featherweight, meaning his otherwise graceful route running is liable to get knocked off course. Similarly, Thrash is unlikely to hold up well at the catch point if it's in the middle of traffic. Thrash might be something like Nelson Agholor at the NFL level -- a wideout ideally used situationally and one at his best when the field is wide open.
