  Hendricks escaped with a no-decision in Wednesday's win against the Pirates, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and three walks in 1.2 innings. He struck out two. Hendricks never found his footing in this one, surrendering a solo home run to Bryan Reynolds in the opening frame before completely unraveling in the second, yielding five additional runs on three extra-base hits before mercifully being pulled with two runners on and two out in the inning. Fortunately for Hendricks, those two runners were stranded and the Cubs rallied to a 14-10 victory, keeping Hendricks' record at 3-10. The 34-year-old veteran has been a shell of his former self this season, registering an ugly 6.75 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 6.0 K/9 in 102.2 innings. Hendricks' next start is slated to be a rematch with Pittsburgh early next week.

Hendricks handcuffed the Twins lineup and tallied five or more punchouts for the fourth time in 2024. Overall, the 34-year-old has pitched to a 6.60 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 65:27 K:BB across 91.1 innings. His next time on the mound is scheduled to be in Cleveland.

Hendricks pitched well for the second straight start, but rookie David Festa and four Minnesota relievers shut the Cubs down in a 3-0 win. For Hendricks, the five strikeouts are his second most in an outing this year, and he's allowed only five runs across 11 innings in his last two appearances. It's a step in the right direction for the veteran, who still has a rough 6.60 ERA overall. Hendricks will look to keep building momentum in his next scheduled start, which is penciled in for next Monday against the Guardians.

Hendricks has gone 1-5 with a 6.07 ERA over his last six outings, but that stretch has actually lowered his season ERA to 6.95 across 80.1 innings. Hendricks is tentatively projected to make his next start at home in a tough matchup against the Phillies.

Hendricks still has an ugly 9.38 ERA overall, and his fantasy value has mostly vanished in this long-relief role, but he could push to rejoin the rotation at some point if he strings together some effective performances.

The veteran made his first relief appearance of the season Thursday, and while he actually lowered his ERA to 10.47, it wasn't a particularly inspiring effort. Hendricks has never been a big strikeout pitcher, relying instead on sharp control to fuel his success, but he's fallen off in a big way so far this year. The righty has limited fantasy appeal in his current role.

However, Jared Triolo would snap a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the third before the Pirates tacked on three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. It's been a brutal start to the year for the veteran right-hander -- Hendricks has now allowed five or more runs in five of his first seven outings. His ERA is up to 10.57 with a 1.99 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB across 30.2 innings. Things won't get any easier for him in his next start -- he's currently set for a tough home matchup with Atlanta.

Hendricks was placed on the IL on April 23 with a lower back strain, a move that followed an extremely uncharacteristic start to the season. Prior to the injury, Hendricks stumbled to a 12.00 ERA and a 2.10 WHIP with eight homers allowed across 21.0 innings. Considering Hendricks had allowed 28 combined home runs over 221.1 innings the past two seasons and owned a 3.54 career ERA before 2024, Sunday's start was much more in line with Hendricks' averages. While one solid start doesn't mean fantasy managers should expect the Hendricks of old moving forward, it's a positive sign amid a not-so-positive season for Hendricks. He's lined up for a rematch with the Pirates on Friday.
