The Guardians didn't hand the reins over to the younger Bo Naylor until mid-June, but regardless he still racked up 2.4 fWAR as a 23-year-old rookie. An impressive athlete at the catcher position, Naylor made his presence felt both at the dish and behind it. He showed good power (11 homers, .232 ISO) and patience (13.0 BB%), finishing 24% better than league average by wRC+. Most enticing for rotisserie players: Naylor's speed. He went a perfect 5-for-5 on the basepaths, and while he's not a burner per se, he is a great runner relative to others at the position. That element of his game gives Naylor the chance to enter rarefied air in fantasy, if he gets the playing time. Cleveland brought Austin Hedges back to help with the workload, but Naylor's plus defense and hitting put him as the clear No. 1 on the depth chart entering 2024. He could surpass 400 plate appearances in a perfect world.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Smacks homer in win

Naylor went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a hit-by-pitch in Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Royals. Naylor's seventh-inning homer sparked a rally for the Guardians. He has gone 3-for-10 over his last five games, with two of the hits in that span being solo shots. The catcher is up to 11 homers in 101 contests this season, matching his total from 67 games a year ago. He's added a .206/.267/.368 slash line, 37 RBI, 35 runs scored and four stolen bases in 2024.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Idle for early game Monday

Naylor is out of the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader with the Royals. Austin Hedges will draw the start at catcher for the early game while the Royals send a lefty (Cole Ragans) to the hill. Right-hander Alec Marsh is starting for Kansas City in the nightcap, so expect the lefty-hitting Naylor to settle back in behind the dish for that contest.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Pops 10th homer

Naylor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 13-5 win over the Rangers. Naylor's up to 10 homers on the year, three of which he's hit over his 18 games in August. Despite the slight uptick in power, he's batting just .226 (12-for-53) this month, though that's a little better than his .207 batting average for the year. The catcher has added a .626 OPS, 36 RBI, 34 runs scored and four stolen bases over 311 plate appearances. The Guardians have mostly stuck to a strict platoon at catcher between the left-handed Naylor and right-handed Austin Hedges in August, so Naylor should continue to see a healthy share of playing time.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Out against left-hander

Naylor is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. The Yankees are sending southpaw Nestor Cortes to the bump, so the left-handed-hitting Naylor will take a seat. Austin Hedges will start at catcher and bat ninth for the Guardians.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Sitting against righty

Naylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. The lefty-hitting Naylor typically starts against right-handed pitchers like the Cubs' Jameson Taillon, but Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt will hold out his top backstop for the series finale. Naylor's absence from the lineup may be explained in part by his recent rough patch at the plate; he's slashing just .194/.194/.484 in 11 games since the beginning of August. In spite of his struggles, Naylor's spot atop the depth chart still looks to be fairly secure.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Idle versus lefty

Naylor is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs. With southpaw Shota Imanaga taking the hill for the Cubs, the lefty-hitting Naylor will retreat to the bench in the series opener. Austin Hedges will fill in for Naylor behind the dish.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Launches ninth homer

Naylor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Twins. Naylor's sixth-inning blast gave the Guardians just enough breathing room for the win. The catcher has gone just 6-for-28 (.214) over his last 10 games, though he has five extra-base hits and eight RBI in that span while sharing the catching duties with Austin Hedges. For the year, Naylor is slashing .203/.264/.363 with nine homers, 33 RBI, 33 runs scored, four stolen bases, 10 doubles and two triples over 88 contests.

Naylor went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 8-4 win over the Tigers. Naylor took Bryan Sammons deep in the sixth inning for his seventh homer of the year. Naylor now has three homers and eight RBI over his last 16 games after registering just four long balls and 20 RBI in his first 63 games. The 24-year-old is trending upward and should continue to get everyday at-bats down the stretch.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Reaches three times in victory

Naylor went 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs and a stolen base in a 2-1 win against the Tigers on Wednesday. Naylor scored both of Cleveland's runs in the victory, with the latter accounting for the winning margin. The backstop helped manufacture that eighth-inning score, working a walk to begin the frame, stealing second base and eventually crossing the plate on a single. Naylor is batting an even .200 (8-for-40) through 17 contests in July.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Pops homer Thursday

Naylor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 10-1 loss to the Tigers. Naylor produced the Guardians' lone run when he took Jack Flaherty deep in the third inning. This was Naylor's second homer in his last five games, though his playing time has taken a hit lately as he's started just three of those contests. The catcher is up to six homers with 24 RBI, 26 runs scored, two stolen bases, nine doubles, one triple and a .207/.276/.350 slash line over 225 plate appearances this season. Naylor is likely to continue sharing the catching duties with Austin Hedges, as David Fry has gotten more looks elsewhere in recent weeks.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Not in lineup against RHP

Naylor is absent from the starting lineup Tuesday at Detroit. Despite Kenta Maeda taking the mound for the Tigers, the lefty-hitting Naylor will yield to Austin Hedges behind the dish Tuesday. Naylor is 6-for-29 (.206) with eight strikeouts during his last nine games.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Registers second steal

Naylor went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one stolen base in Thursday's 8-4 win over the White Sox. Naylor has gone 13-for-36 (.361) with seven extra-base hits and eight RBI over his last 12 contests. His steal Thursday was his second of the campaign on three attempts. While he doesn't offer much speed, he's started to hit well enough to maintain steady playing time behind the dish, though he's at a .203/.272/.330 slash line through 61 games overall. Austin Hedges is backing up Naylor at catcher while David Fry has seen most of his recent playing time at designated hitter.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Logs three hits in loss

Naylor went 3-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Royals. Naylor has a pair of three-hit efforts over his last five games, but he went 0-for-7 with a walk and three strikeouts in between those contests. The catcher has started to show a bit more life with the bat, hitting .286 (14-for-49) with eight extra-base hits over 16 contests in June, though he also struck out 15 times. Naylor's at a .207/.274/.335 slash line with four home runs, 17 RBI, 22 runs scored, one stolen base, nine doubles and one triple through 197 plate appearances this year. His playing time has rebounded after dipping in late May and early June, but Naylor will need to continue to make a good effort due to David Fry being around to poach starts behind the dish.

  • Guardians' Bo Naylor: Tallies three hits in win

Naylor went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored in a 10-8 win over the Orioles on Tuesday. Naylor was active early, doubling and scoring in the second inning and then singling and scoring the third. He hit an RBI triple and came around to score again in the eighth. Naylor finished a home run shy of a cycle in his first three-hit effort of the season. Over his past five games, Naylor has gone 8-for-18 with six extra-base hits, five RBI and six runs scored. On the season, the young catcher is hitting .202 with four home runs, 17 RBI and 22 runs scored over 168 at-bats.
