  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Giants' Matt Chapman: Drives in three

Chapman went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Tigers.

Chapman had a two-run single in the first and an RBI single in the sixth to produce the Giants' first three runs. The third baseman was held hitless in the first two games versus the Tigers, but he's still batting .325 (13-for-40) with four home runs and 12 RBI over 10 games in August. For the season, he's up to a .249/.338/.450 slash line with 19 homers, 60 RBI, 81 runs scored, 30 doubles, one triple and 12 stolen bases over 117 contests.

  • Giants' Hayden Birdsong: Takes second loss

Birdsong (3-2) allowed five runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five over 4.1 innings to take the loss versus the Tigers on Sunday.

Birdsong has stumbled in consecutive starts since joining the Giants' rotation on a more firm basis, allowing 12 runs over his last 6.1 innings. His command was better Sunday with 51 of his 85 pitches going for strikes, but he gave up multiple home runs for the second outing in a row. The right-hander is now at a 5.40 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 44:19 K:BB through 36.2 innings over eight starts in the majors. Birdsong is tentatively scheduled for a road start in Oakland for his next outing, though he may be on a short leash if his performance doesn't improve soon.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | ATL

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Racks up four hits Sunday

Arcia went 4-for-4 in Sunday's 9-8 loss to Colorado.

All four hits were singles. Arcia earned his third multi-hit effort in his last five games, but he doesn't have an extra-base hit or an RBI since Aug. 2. The shortstop is at a .234/.278/.366 slash line with 11 home runs, 33 RBI, 32 runs scored, 19 doubles and no stolen bases over 112 contests this season.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Goes yard Sunday

    D'Arnaud went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 9-8 loss to Colorado.

D'Arnaud was in an 0-for-10 skid at the plate before lifting a two-run blast in the fourth inning to extend Atlanta's lead to 3-0. The catcher has five homers among 13 hits over his last 12 contests, and he's added nine RBI and nine runs scored in that span. For the year, he's maintained a .252/.312/.473 slash line with 12 homers, 37 RBI, 31 runs scored, one stolen base and 14 doubles over 76 contests.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Smacks homer, double in loss

Riley went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Sunday's 9-8 loss to Colorado.

Riley gave Atlanta a hot start with his first-inning homer and came around to score again on a Matt Olson double in the seventh. Riley is 7-for-23 (.304) with three homers and eight RBI over his last five contests. For the season, he's posted a .264/.330/.475 slash line with 18 homers, 55 RBI, 60 runs scored, 26 doubles and no stolen bases over 103 games. His power is still behind where it's been over the last three years, but it appears he's turning things around.

  • Jorge Soler RF | ATL

Braves' Jorge Soler: Slugs two homers in loss

Soler went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI in Sunday's 9-8 loss to Colorado.

Soler helped Atlanta build an 8-2 lead with a three-run blast in the seventh inning and a solo shot in the eighth, but the team's bullpen couldn't make that lead last. Hitting in Colorado went extremely well for Soler this weekend -- he went 7-for-13 with four homers and nine RBI during the three-game series. He's now slashing .246/.336/.442 with 16 homers, 50 RBI, 64 runs scored, 24 doubles and a stolen base over 103 contests this season. He'll look to keep his bat hot against his most recent former team as Atlanta visits San Francisco for a four-game set starting Monday.

  • Rays' Justin Sterner: Hits IL at Triple-A

Triple-A Durham placed Sterner on its 7-day injured list Saturday with an unspecified injury.

Sterner hasn't pitched since Aug. 3 due to an unspecified injury or illness. The right-hander made appearances out of the Tampa Bay bullpen on May 31 and June 4 but has otherwise spent the 2024 season at Durham, producing a 3.76 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 45:16 K:BB in 40.2 innings.

  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Quality start at Colorado

Schwellenbach allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Sunday.

Schwellenbach was initially expected to be skipped for this start, but Atlanta changed plans to keep him on turn this time. He rewarded that faith with his fifth quality start in his last six outings, but Atlanta's bullpen imploded in the eighth inning to cost him the win. Schwellenbach is now at a 3.95 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 77:12 K:BB through 70.2 innings over 12 starts in the majors. The 24-year-old is at a total of 115.2 innings across all levels this year after throwing just 65 innings in 2023, so it's still possible his workload gets trimmed back at some point. Consider him penciled in to make his next start on the road versus the Angels.

  • Sam Hilliard LF | COL

Rockies' Sam Hilliard: Three more hits in win

Hilliard went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's 9-8 win over Atlanta.

Prior to this weekend, Hilliard went 2-for-18 over a 12-game span. He's posted consecutive three-hit efforts, though he wasn't as involved in run production as he was when he had five RBI on Saturday. The outfielder is up to a .277/.338/.508 slash line with four home runs, 13 RBI, 15 runs scored, four stolen bases and three doubles over 77 plate appearances. While his bat has come to life, he still doesn't have a guaranteed place in the lineup, and he's likely to be limited to a strong-side platoon role at best.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Contributes in comeback win

Blackmon went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 9-8 win over Atlanta.

Blackmon was a contributor in Sunday's eighth-inning comeback, getting the Rockies within two runs on a two-run single before scoring on Ryan McMahon's single. This was Blackmon's fifth multi-hit effort over his last 12 games, a span in which he's batting .300 (15-for-50) with six RBI. He's up to a .258/.331/.400 slash line with eight homers, 38 RBI, 46 runs scored, five stolen bases, 19 doubles and three triples across 89 contests this season.
