Player Outlook
Claypool has played for more teams in the past two seasons (three) than he has touchdowns (two). The fact that he landed in Buffalo with Josh Allen, on a team that just lost Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, may give some people hope for the former second-round pick. We are not that optimistic and suggest that you leave Claypool on the waiver wire in all but the deepest of leagues. If he starts to make noise in the preseason, we can reconsider.

  • Chase Claypool: Reaches injury settlement

The Bills have reached an injury settlement with Claypool (toe), Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The Bills placed Claypool on injured reserve Tuesday, but following Thursday's injury settlement, the veteran wideout is now free to catch on elsewhere once he's past a toe issue that he sustained July 28. Unless he ends up in an ideal situation, however, the 2020 second-rounder seems unlikely to make much of a fantasy impact early on this season.

  • Bills' Chase Claypool: Placed on IR

The Bills placed Claypool (toe) on injured reserve Tuesday. Claypool won't be able to play this season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the Bills at some point and then becomes a free agent. He injured his toe July 28 and hasn't practiced since, leaving Mack Hollins and Marquez Valdes-Scantling as the veteran favorites for depth roles at wide receiver in Buffalo.

  • Bills' Chase Claypool: Another missed practice

Claypool missed Tuesday's practice due to a toe injury, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports. The free-agent signee suffered the injury Sunday. While it isn't expected to be a long-term issue, Claypool is on the roster bubble, so any missed time could end up costing him as he takes aim at one of the Bills' final receiver spots.

  • Bills' Chase Claypool: Viewed as day-to-day

Claypool is considered day-to-day with a toe issue, Sal Maioranaof the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports. Claypool sustained his toe injury Sunday, but he isn't expected to be out for long. Once he's able to return to practice, Claypool will resume competing for slotting in a re-tooled Bills wideout corps that also includes Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mack Hollins and rookie Keon Coleman.

  • Bills' Chase Claypool: Hurt during practice Sunday

Claypool appeared to injure his left leg while practicing Sunday, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports. Fitzgerald indicated that the wideout looked to be in "a good bit of pain" and hobbled after the play before being looked at by trainers. An update on Claypool's status may come following Buffalo's practice Sunday. Being able to participate during training camp could be critical for Claypool, as he is jostling for placement on the team's WR depth chart with the likes of Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mack Hollins and rookie Keon Coleman.

  • Bills' Chase Claypool: Shines at OTAs

Claypool has been the Bills' "most consistent" wide receiver at OTAs, according to Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard. It's perhaps not surprising that a 6-foot-4 wideout with 4.42 speed and ample NFL experience looks good in non-contact practices, but it's nonetheless interesting to hear the word 'consistent' used in conjunction with Claypool. He fell out of favor with the Steelers in 2022 and the Bears in 2023, and while Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel complimented him on multiple occasions, Claypool caught only four passes in nine games after a trade to Miami last October. He'll turn 26 in July and has an interesting opportunity ahead, competing for snaps in a high-upside offense where only Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel seem assured of significant playing time at wide receiver. Claypool could even join those two as a regular presence in three-wide sets if his impressive work this spring continues into summer, but he'll have to hold off competition from 33rd overall pick Keon Coleman as well as veterans Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Mack Hollins.

  • Bills' Chase Claypool: Links up with Buffalo

Claypool is signing a one-year contract with the Bills, Jonathan Jones of CBSSports.com reports. Unable to make an impact in Chicago or Miami last season, Claypool now heads to his fourth NFL team for his fifth year in the league. It's about as good of a locale as he could've hoped for, as the Bills have a strong-armed franchise QB and questionable depth at WR. Claypool could perhaps serve as a deep threat off the bench even if his days as a starter are numbered.

  • Dolphins' Chase Claypool: Can't finish on deep ball

Claypool failed to secure his only target during Sunday's 56-19 loss to the Ravens. Claypool was targeted in the end zone on a deep pass from Tua Tagovailoa (shoulder) late in the third quarter, but despite initially securing the ball, he wasn't able to complete a catch. Reports about Claypool's performance in practice have picked up recently, but even with Jaylen Waddle (ankle) sidelined Sunday, the four-year veteran hasn't yet managed to make a splash in a Dolphins uniform. Pending Waddle's status, Claypool could see some offensive involvement again during a crucial Week 18 divisional matchup against the Bills.

  • Dolphins' Chase Claypool: Still working through injury

Claypool (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. Claypool hasn't played since Week 9 with the injury and will likely head into the weekend questionable again. However, if he's able to ramp up his activity level Thursday or Friday, he could still suit up Sunday against the Commanders.

  • Dolphins' Chase Claypool: Inactive versus Jets

Claypool (knee) is inactive for Friday's game against the Jets. Claypool, who the Dolphins had listed as questionable for the contest, will sit out Friday after he managed nothing more than limited participation in practice this week. With just one catch for 15 yards on two targets in three games with Miami so far, the 2020 second-round draft pick is off the fantasy radar for now.

  • Dolphins' Chase Claypool: Questionable for Friday

Claypool (knee) is listed as questionable for Friday's game against the Jets, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. Claypool has been listed as limited in practice ahead of the contest, and his Week 12 status is unclear at this stage. That said, with just one catch for 15 yards on two targets in three games with the Dolphins to date, Claypool is off the fantasy radar for now.

  • Dolphins' Chase Claypool: Remains limited

Claypool (knee) was listed as a limited participant on Thursday's practice estimate, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. Claypool was unable to play in Week 11 and his status for Friday's game will remain in question for another day. Even if he is able to suit up against the Jets, the Notre Dame product would likely have a minimal role in the team's deep receiving corps.

  • Dolphins' Chase Claypool: Considered limited Tuesday

Claypool (knee) was listed as a limited participant on Miami's estimated injury report Tuesday, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. Claypool was unable to play in the team's Week 11 win over the Raiders after he underwent knee surgery during the Week 10 bye week. The wide receiver was initially considered week-to-week following the procedure and he'll look to practice in some capacity ahead of Friday's matchup with the Jets.

  • Dolphins' Chase Claypool: Week-to-week after knee procedure

Claypool (knee) underwent a minor knee procedure during Miami's Week 10 bye and is considered week-to-week, per coach Mike McDaniel, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. Claypool will miss Sunday's game against the Raiders, and the wide receiver will likely need to practice in some capacity to have a chance of playing against the Jets in Week 12. He failed to practice coming out of the bye week.

  • Dolphins' Chase Claypool: Inactive Sunday

Claypool (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers. With Claypool's game debut with the Dolphins on hold, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Cedrick Wilson, Braxton Berrios and Robbie Chosen are slated to handle the team's Week 6 WR duties. Claypool's next chance to suit up will arrive in Week 7 against the Eagles.

  • Dolphins' Chase Claypool: Dealt to Dolphins

The Bears have agreed Friday to trade Claypool to the Dolphins, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Claypool, who was a healthy scratch for Chicago's win over the Commanders on Thursday night, is being traded to Miami in exchange for a 2025 swap of late-round picks, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic. The veteran wideout had clearly fallen out of favor with the Bears' coaching staff, as he racked up just four receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown on 14 targets through the Bears' first three games despite playing more than 75 percent of the offensive snaps. Now, Claypool will need to compete with Braxton Berrios, Cedrick Wilson and Robbie Chosen for snaps behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, making his path to fantasy relevance difficult to envision even if Miami's offense can utilize him more effectively.

  • Bears' Chase Claypool: Won't join team for Week 5

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said Monday that Claypool won't be present at the team's facilities this week or available for Thursday's game against the Commanders, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Eberflus' comments on Claypool's status came after the wideout was a healthy inactive for Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Broncos. As Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune notes, the coach said Sunday that Claypool -- who wasn't even in attendance at Soldier Field after being told to stay home for the Week 4 game -- was expected to be back in the building for Week 5 prep, but those plans apparently changed. The Bears and Claypool seem to be headed for a divorce, either through a trade or the wideout's release. The former Steeler tallied just four receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown on 14 targets through the Bears' first three games, despite playing more than 75 percent of the snaps on offense in each of those contests.

  • Bears' Chase Claypool: Weak performance

Claypool caught one pass for 15 yards in the Bears' 41-10 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. Claypool was second on the team with four targets, but the Chicago offense was unable to move the ball until the Chiefs brought in their defensive backups late in the game. Although Claypool has seen increased snaps since Week 1, the anemic passing game may limit his potential to have consistent production.

  • Bears' Chase Claypool: Surprises with solid game

Claypool caught three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 27-17 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. The Bears lost Darnell Mooney to a knee injury during the contest, and Claypool then functioned as the primary receiving complement to DJ Moore. Claypool led the team with eight targets, and he could get a chance to build on his encouraging effort if Mooney is forced to miss time.

  • Bears' Chase Claypool: Won't play in preseason opener

Claypool (hamstring) isn't suited up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Titans, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. Claypool tweaked his hamstring during practice Wednesday, and while it appears to be a minor issue, it's not surprising to see Chicago proceed with caution. The wideout's next chance to suit up for game action will come next Saturday against the Colts, but he'll likely have to practice at some point during the week to be cleared for that matchup.
